Levein To Stick With Same Side That Beat Watford

Recommended Posts

Are we going to keep an unchanged team when Goal-Smith returns?

Play your strongest available team I say.

And Nils is not the best left-back. In fact he doesn't look like a left back at all.

He isn't available for another 3 games (including the Carling Cup game) so unless we win all 3 games i'm sure Levein will have a little tinker, it's in his blood. Plus Smudger is the best player in this league and even Levein knows it.

Can't someone get the overwhelming message about Sheehan into Levein's hands or into his mind, whichever is easier? Nothing could be louder or clearer. The vote recently was so overwhelming that had it been "Ask the Audience" not a single contestant would have even considered going against it.

No-one is trying to manage his team. In many positions Levein has genuine competition or tactical decisions to make to come up with his preferred side but left back ...

There are two left-backs at the club, Sheehan and Gilbert, plus two or three who can fill in at a pinch. Sheehan is more versatile, is a better passer, has better close control and is an outstanding free kick specialist so, in my view he is considerably better than Gilbert who does now seem to be improving, judging by his international performance.

So I'd pick Sheehan and consider Gilbert for the bench.

Nils, meanwhile, would have to compete for a centre-back spot where he is best suited.

Smith will replace Hamill (sp?). ;) No he isn't but CL likes to bring his youngsters into the side when the side is winning. ;)

It is one of the only gripes I have with levein, but obviously he doesn't feel Sheehan is ready to play regularly for us. I think he should and so do alot of fans but to be fair to Levein he does know when a player is ready or not you only have to look at his other youngsters he's bought through at Leicester and Hearts. I think if Sheehan continues to put in assured displays for the reserves and RIO Under 21's then Levein won't hesitate in putting him in, however I do think he was wrong to drop him after the Sheffield Wednesday match.

Apart from a nervous first 20 minutes when his passing was iffy I felt he had a decent game against Wednesday . They weren't great opposition but we won and we kept a clean sheet (where we conceded one and it should have been two).

Certainly I've seen no-one more assured at left-back since. Stearman has hardly been without fault since his arrival at right back but while Levein seems to accept the odd (even serious) lapse with him, with Maybury, with Dion, with McCarthy, with Nils (the bloke just walked round him Saturay and it could have cost us the game), with all the forwards and all the wingers, WHY is his judgement of Sheehan so much harsher.

Sheehan is class. Capital letters, class. Indeed he is more of a footballer already, in the pure sense of the word, than some of the players will ever be. Is it the chemistry thing he's talked about? I'd just like to know cos the silence has been deafening.

I agree with you, Sheehan should be given the chance. Stearman has barely put a foot wrong since he's played other than a dodgy 45 minutes at Derby. Sheehan has played 3 times for us and i've seen him in 2 of them and has played extremely well and deserves to play at left back and i'm sure he will do eventually. If you write to Craig Levein he'll get in contact with you i'm sure of it.
