Of no great significance other than to demonstrate the demise of many northern clubs: 10 seasons ago Liverpool were in the southerly half of the 20 PL clubs. This season Watford are in the northern half..

I remember just a few years ago you had half the league playing in Lancashire/Greater Manchester alone lol. The midlands has been under represented for a fair while now.

But then again a lot of the small northern towns punch above their weight - especially in Lancashire. Best example currently is Burnley, you've also got Blackburn, Wigan, Bolton, Oldham, from previous years and the likes of Accrington and Morecambe, Macclesfield who have no right even being in the football league while 'bigger' clubs from the South, Midlands and North East  languish somewhere in the non league system.

Only small sized southern or midland towns I can think of who have really punched above their weight are recently Bournemouth, and over the years Ipswich and West Bromwich.

The Midlands is in a bad state at the minute overall although it's hardly been great throughout my lifetime. The peak is literally 2015/16 lol

none of them were much good but surely late 90s there must’ve been nearly half the division from the midlands in some years.

us, cov, derby, forest, villa all mainstays and birmingham and wolves must’ve spent a year or two amongst it, too.

yorkshire are the ones letting the side down these days. just huddersfield.

I'll never quite get how the north west is so much stronger than Yorkshire.
