Whitworth was a very good and dependable right back for us but he could never realistically be described as technically one of the best players that ever played for us.

At right back..his positioning nous, his pace, his heading ability, and his movement when driving forward, plus his crosses, were top,

That for me sets him up as Technically sound, and ditto for Dennis Rofe, and a few other 1950s-80s full backs we had.

Leicester were fortunate in not just having decades of great top notch Goalkeepers ,but some great Fbacks.

Technic ,for me is a variant and has a wide spectrum.....for each position.

So Steve Whitworth FB technic, was one of the best.....One has to learn to read between the lines, and understand the variants required

For every single position...Eg:  Rodrigues,Rofe,Whitworth, could well have made decent modern day WBacks..

Simpson was an out n out FB,who for 3-4 yrs was one of the best Players along the Bline...in the PL. There very technically adjusted!!

And not forgetting David Nish who I would say was a more technically gifted full-back than the others you mention.

agree Top no doubt, and a favourite player of mine, but I won't split hairs,I could of na med, a few more...I was just trying to make a point

on defenders and technic.  Though Nish like you said would / could be top of the tree...

I went to School with Steve Whitworth - Coalville Grammar as was. I remember we had a super football team who got a long way in the English Schools. I may be wrong but think it may have been the semi-finals. Most lunchtimes he and other talented footballers at the time would play in the school gym and there would always be a crowd watching. Whitworth was different class wearing his white Adidas Samba trainers which were out of reach of us mere mortals! Was not surprised he went on to make a career in the professional game but he never looked as good as did in the gym! Anyone else out there who went to the school and remembers him?
