Our railway infrastructure (Leicester) is miles behind other similar parts of the country and our station needs a revamp too.

It's like much of the infrastructure in this country, such as the internet speeds and signals, we're miles behind where we should really be.

The plans were in place to electrify the midland main line all the way up to Leeds but was stopped because the money was needed for hs2. They’ll deny it of course and we’re going to get some crappy dual fuel engines instead. More short termism.

I reckon (quite baselessly tbf) that if a significant amount of “Northern Powerhouse” funding was diverted to the Midlands the ROI would be better

You need to be very politically astute to get the region pushed up the political ladder.  The government want to make the right noises with regard to its new found base in the North.

You have an excellent advocate in Nottingham - Lillian Greenwood.  Well respected but she really needs more of the regions’ MPs to get involved.

Not shocked. Not that this would really benefit Leicestershire much anyway if it goes ahead.

Work on the eastern leg of the High Speed Two rail line has stopped, the project's chief executive has admitted. Officials are busy preparing plans to extend the HS2 line north west to Manchester, but they have been told by the Department for Transport to halt work on the planned section between Birmingham and the East Midlands, and onwards to Leeds.

The Toton hub is such a stupid idea.

Given how bad Leeds and Sheffield's connections are for the 4th and 7th biggest cities (off the top of my head) it'd make more sense for a new Great Central line, London to Leeds.
