Nah ... first and foremost he must be able to defend, close down and stop crosses from the man he is marking. He cannot hide behind having a “decent player in front of him” anymore - he has been found out.

I'm sure he'd look better with a decent player in front of him but we have four poor wide players in Barnes, Gray, Perez and Albrighton.

Barnes and Perez may yet come good (again?) but I don't want to see either playing regularly at the moment yet the alternatives are two players who I never want to see play for us again.

Yes I know Albrighton is a legend but his best days are long gone.

He's only 30 and hasn't had a run in the side, despite him being a central player in our best ever side. The likes of Maddison aren't even in the same league as that team. Albrighton is etched into football folklore as part of that side, and was one of the best players for Ranieri's two successors.

And it's interesting how much better Barnes is when Chilwell isn't behind him. In fact, who looks good with Chilwell next to them?

I think, by the way, that you're way off the mark in dismissing Barnes. To say that just in order to defend a player who has been poor no matter who he partners, and whose application has been called into question (in a side which is sorely lacking in blood, sweat, toil and tears) seems daft to me. I've read your posts over time and, without wanting to patronise, agree with no end of your points, but it strikes me that you're trying to be a good fan and defend someone who's getting slack, but in doing so you're kind of lashing out at people who have done a lot more for us than Chilwell.

Most given a 1, Maddison and Chilwell I’d have given less if I could have. Barnes was highest, at 4, as at least he’d tried to make something happen.

What exactly was he trying to make happen? Mass murder by frustration as all of his (admittedly good) approach work ends up in bone-headed decisions?

Anyway, this season is teaching me that I actually have way more patience than I had previously given myself credit for. For if he wasn’t such a young player in his first EPL season, I would have blown a gasket already. lol

Barnes is coming in for more stick than he deserves. He was about the only one (along with Ricardo) making runs to try to make something happen. Admittedly they came to nothing in the end.

I didn't dismiss Barnes, I said he could come good (again?) indicating that I believed he'd already played well for us.

I queried why Chilwell got a 2 not because I was defending him but because I gave him a 1.

Albrighton was one of the first on the team sheet for me in the past. He's been a shadow of that this season (and I wasn't that impressed last season), he's even looked lacking in cup games.

It's not lashing out at player, it's just realising that the game has passed them by. I don't want to see Morgan play again either, although I'd bring him on when we're 3-0 up in the 88th minute of the FA Cup Final.

In fact it'd be a double substitution with Albrighton also joining him.

Someone else mentioned that Barnes looked better when not playing with Chilwell, they could be spot on there, thought Barnes looked good when he's switched to the right.
