Time to start spending

Recommended Posts

So. Without wishing to sound impatient, it’s usually pretty obvious when deals have been in the pipeline for a bit (especially the big money ones) and they seem to happen early in the window and usually involve this clubs paying over £50 million for a player which we are yet to be in a position to complete on such a fee.

Im sure we are working on targets but until the Championship playoffs are done and probably a few other variables the domino effect of the window to allow deals to happen has yet to begin to cascade.

Talk of selling Nacho today in the context of raising funds and having to sell to buy is perhaps telling and a tad uncomfortable - I wonder just how many players might be involved for us to sell if this is the case... There’s a split in our fan base around the idea of if we’ve even got £50 million to spend on multiple players if we don’t sell Chilwell. Lots of known unknowns.

It it would be excellent to get a signing in of quality in the next week or so - we obviously need depth in quality both for the squad and starting XI - that’d serve to reassure a few players and settle the nerves of the fans who have long experience of deadline day hope, more hope and then silence (not that the latter is important from a business side of things).

Be great if Top came out with the cash up front and we didn’t look like we were being held over a barrel to shift players. I hope the transfer team play this window well - it’ll be a key window for us looking at the likes of Man City & Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea. There’s a top four there that may just be different gravy to everybody else next season if we don’t improve our squad by some margin.

Chelsea are the only club to have done any really business.

Get the right person rather then someone!
