I have a question that isn't specifically linked to what @Ian Nacho has said, but didn't want to start a new thread.

When a mod has chosen to clear a load of posts from a thread (perhaps because people have got into a petty argument) is there a way of being notified why?

It's happening a lot more recently, i've just come back to a notification of 5 rep points and two quotes of something i'd said in defence of @UpTheLeagueFox and now I can't see any trace of my post or what was said in response.

This is something that happens a lot now (never used to) so I feel some sort of DM outlining things would help?

Only reason being i'd like to understand myself whether it was my post that created the issue or whether it was something someone sad in reply that created an issue :)
