Just read on another site that Reiner Bonnhoff has quit as Scottish Under 21 coach.

Is this not his perfect chance to go back to his beloved homeland?

He can work with the young players he claims to champion, can position himself for early entry into international management and can avoid the chance of leaving Leicester under what might become a big black cloud.

By going now we could all acknowedge his plus points: lowering the wage bill, lowering the average age of the team and saving us millions.

There would be chance to re-align our thinking before the season becomes what may yet prove a disaster by quickly getting in someone might for once pick our strongest team (by reading this website as an opening gambit).

What is our strongest side (if this happens quickly!!!):

Well, DavieG's demonstrated that no-one agrees on any one person for a particular position (with the possible exception of Gerrbrand) but the consensus seems to go:

Douglas/Henderson (no great difference);

Stearman/Maybury, McCarthy, Gerrbrand, Sheehan;

Smith/Sylla, Hughes, Joey, Hammill/Smith;

Two from: MDV/Hume/Hammond.

Subs: Nils, Williams, two from the above, and one other (I'd go Chambers but it doesn't matter particularly)

Okay, I'm not pretending everyone will agree with the above or, indeed, the formation but I hope most would agree it will give any new manager a credible start.

Any chance something could be sorted tonight???????? :)

Thrac,

I respect your point of view and think you make a lot of valid points, although not always ones I agree with but (and I know this has been gone over many times) who would replace Levein, he needs significantly more time to mould his squad and first team, and their have been massive improvements on the pitch. Some of football, although not always effective, is excellent - this is Levein's doing and that cutting edge will come.

Heh, I like the way you criticise CL for not playing our strongest team, then post a line up that is (with the exception two players) exactly the same team that CL chose to start the last couple of matches.

:doh:

In regard to the two players that differ...

Hughes - he's nowhere near match fit yet so who else does that leave to fill the creative/attacking central midfield role? CL wisely chose Joey who proved to be a good choice but then who does he choose to fill the holding midfield role? Williams? Tiatto? Seems Kisnorbo was his best option out of a bad lot, seriously, would you trust Tiatto or Williams in that role? Of course, he could have left Joey in the holding/defensive midfield role and put Hume on as the attacking/creative midfielder, this I would have loved to have seen, but, we all know that Hume is still recovering from international duty. So, what could CL have done differently that I've not already covered?

Sheehan - okay, we all know your obsession with this young player (are you his Dad?) and I think a lot of us would have liked to see him appear a lot more often in the first team, after all, Stearman is about the same age and has come through okay under the pressure of playing in the first team, so why not Sheehan? That said, we seem to have a pretty tight back four in Stearman/McCarthy/Gebrrand/Maybury so why rock the boat and unsettle the defence by bringing in someone new unless absolutey warranted? Would the positives really outweigh the negatives? Maybe in the long run yes, but, as he's under pressure CL is being constantly forced to focus on the short term as every slip up is being overly analysed and criticised, he needs to get some solid performances and hopefully some results damn soon, which, bar a couple of damn fluky goals we so very nearly got on Tuesday night.

Also, if we did get rid of CL who would we bring in to replace him? Given the team and finances we're stuck with what other manager could come in a work the miracles you desire?

Getting Tired of this constent Levein bashing. Can it not now wait till after the next match?

We have been so close to winning or not losing so many matches (22 draws out of 49 and loads of odd-goal defeats) that it is clear that three things might well have made that bit of difference between success and failure: our strongest team (instead of the two short recently as I might concede, though you can add Hume to that number generally), selections which didn't involve playing people continuously out of position and tactics which made sense and didn't cost us vital points.

On the question of Sheehan I have no connection with him whatsoever - is there something wrong with wanting by far our most multi-talented left-back in the team instead of some contrived makeweight like Nils, Kisnorbo or Maybury? I'd certainly rather play him that lose him. How about you?

Finally I don't reallly care who's chosen to replace him (if he RESIGNS and goes to Scotland) so long as it is someone with charisma, someone with astute tactical knowledge, someone who picks their team fairly (regardless of favourites or personalities), someone who doesn't overload the team with defenders, someone with good motivational skills, someone who can get the best out of all types of player (not just the workhorses), someone with all-round coaching ability, someone who doesn't waste our money on sub-standard signings more than occasionally and someone who doesn't humiliate players in public.

I have my preferences, of course, but it would depend on their availability and speculation is pretty academic and pointless.

Hope that answers your questions cos I don't think any of the above requires the need for miracles. Most of it means addressing obvious problems and applying common sense.

PS: I'll be there tomorrow just the same backing the team with enthusiasm and backing the manager (against my better judgement).

Not asking for much then!!!!!!!

Um, I wasn't bashing CL, just trying to offer a more level perspective on his options and subsequent choices. I'm neither massively pro or anti Levein at the moment, in my eyes, it's too early to offer any kind of 'final' judgement on him.

I've been pleased by the steady progress made in certain areas and bewildered by his actions in other areas, but, like I said in another thread I'll give him till this time next year before camping myself on either side of the fence.

After seeing a couple of his performances you can count me in with those who would have liked to have seen Sheehan take up permanent residence in the first team at left-back. It would be a sad day if we lost him.

So will I, if we can put in the same kind of performance against SUFC as we did against Watford (bar the bit where we pick the ball out of our own net, of course) then it should be a great match.

In regard to the rest of your post which I have mercilessly snipped out (sorry about that)... you managed to say an awful lot without actually answering the questions I was asking, nice one.

Not asking for much then!!!!!!!

There's not much fuel in the tank these days Babylon but I ALWAYS asked for a lot (of myself too) and, reflecting on a life full of marvellous memories, irreplaceable experiences I wouldn't have had it any other way. It's too late for a personality change now even if I wanted one - but a new body wouldn't go amiss ...
