Thracian Posted 19 December 2005 Posted 19 December 2005 How times change. I've just telephoned Leicester City for a youth team squad for tomorrow's FA Youth Trophy match at the Walkers (which the club would like fans to atend). The receptionist was pleasantness itself and tried to be helpful but there was no return call and no team was forthcoming nor can I cannot see any squad published as yet on the official site. If none has been released, why not say so? What a contrast to ringing people like Bill Shankly or Sir Bobby Robson. Bill just talked and talked about Liverpool til he'd almost lost his voice. Sir Bobby was actually called away mid-conversation and offered his home phone number for the following day when he waxed lyrical for over half an hour. Leicester Acdemy? Ah well. Different era. I just thought the under 18's might be glad of a boost.

If you are going to go because of a certain player that is playing then you should be prepared to go anyway!!! I'lll be going no doubt about that.

It's just that the day before a match which you want the fans to attend you'd think the club would have a team squad they could release. It would not even need the precious time of any Academy coach, just the information leaving with the receptionist who implied she would have been delighted to convey anything she'd been given but there was nothing to hand. After all, it was City appealed for the fans to attend. So why not help the atmosphere a bit by letting us know who's available and how strong our line-up might be. I doubt many of the fans know the game's on at all. If the squad cannot be named (for whatever reason) why not just say so? Where information and publicity are concerned - every little helps - especially in the current market place.

They gave the impression of wanting to help (in one way they did help and I thank them for that) but although my call was returned the team squad was still not available over 24 hours later. Who was it complained about communication levels in the club? Does no-one realise. Football clubs feed on publicity. Not just bland nothings but stories, things which bring the club's personalties to life and with the match tonight focus just happens to settle on the Under 18's. Not earth shattering in the order of things but important to the players so as far as the club is concerned it's a matter of being bothered. Of being professional. Of making the time to feed some proper information through. Such things spread a club's reputation and good impressions can go a long way. Dot the i's and cross the t's...just like producing teamsheets for the reserves which has finally happened. It's the way to win things in the end and there's not been too much of that at Leicester in recent years..

Academy Director Jon Rudkin has urged the local community to get behind the Under-18s when they take on Huddersfield Town in the third round of the FA Youth Cup at the Walkers Stadium tonight (Tuesday ko 7pm). City have already defeated the Terriers once this season in the league but the Foxes are expecting a sterner test this time around. "It will be a tough match," admitted Rudkin. "But if the lads play like they have been doing and use the experience which they have gained in the Reserves then they should relish the challenge to play anyone. "It is a great competition and one that every team wants to do well in. "It is an opportunity for the youngsters to play at the Walkers under floodlights which is certainly a different and unique atmosphere from the one they get to experience on a Saturday morning. "The FA Youth Cup forms another stepping stone as part of their development and that's why we would love to see any supporters attending the match. "It is a great opportunity for people to see some of our younger players in action and offer their support and help cheer them on." Admission to the match is just £4 for adults and £2 concessions. Under 16s can gain entry FREE OF CHARGE. The winners of the tie will travel to Carlisle United in the fourth round next year. City squad: Carl Pentney, Alex Cisak, Joe Magunda, Max Gradel, Connor Franklin, Ashley Chambers, Ryan Beswick, Scott Lycett, Billy McKay, Liam Norval Ricky Muggleton, Tom Tejan-Sie, Joe Mattock, Andy King, Kraig Rochester, Adam Wykes, Eric Odhiambo.

Yes, I got the squad about 14.30, some 28 hours after the initial enquiry. Never mind. Let's hope we win.
