Darren "and one thing I will say" Fletcher is the worst by a country mile. Matterface is proper crap but he at least tries to commentate on the game rather than pinning himself as some bastion of football knowledge like Fletcher, who also has the dubious honour of somehow managing to make Ally McCoist actually a bit annoying when he's paired up with him. He commentates like an annoying loud prat in a pub.

Fletcher’s main knowledge is concentrated on Forest. He might as well be standing on the Trent End when he takes their matches. Also, he really never shuts up! It’s as though he’s been told not to have any silent moments.

Didn’t realise Fletcher was a Forest fan but that aside he’s a decent commentator. Good voice, injects drama into the big moments properly. Martin Tyler mumbled on like a self-centred cretin more than Fletcher but people forgave it because he had the same qualities.
 

Matterface is about 100 levels below. He doesn’t have a commentators voice, he’s cringe, he’s fake in every single syllable, everything is a sound bite. The only ones who run him close are Peter Drury and the hateful Gary Weaver.

Most female commentators (sorry)

 

These people might be liked by their colleagues but someone should have told them they didn’t have the voice for commentary, because if you don’t have that everything else is irrelevant.

This is cheating as he's a presenter/proxy for expert, but I cannot be doing with Mark Pougatch, who seems to spend his air time shouting at the viewer in a voice that sounds like it's just read every red top newspaper.

Not sure the husband of Lady Scott would even know what a red top was.

 

See your point though, he does give off Talk TV phone in vibes.

Summertown is unbearable. Always switch off or find another channel (IPTV) if he's the commentator.

 

He talks non-stop without pausing and most of it is inane stats that most don't want to hear. Sometimes less is more when commentating and the good ones master that, knowing when to speak and what to say.
