What would your starting 11 be for England , if you had a fully fit squad ?

Mine

Robinson

Rio/Terry/Campbell

Beckham/Lampard/Butt/Gerrard/A.Cole

Rooney/Owen

Neville------Campbell---Ferdinand-------Cole

Wright-Phillips-Beckham-Lampard---Gerrard

With Gerrard tucking in a fair bit and Cole overlapping.

Oh the height...

For me Nicky Butt has to play

He would be in mine if I didn't rate Wright-Phillips as much as I do.

I think Beckham in the middle can offer us a fair bit with his range of passing.

It is a bit risky though as Gerrard would have to contain on the left when we aren't in possesion and neither Lampard or Beckham are holding players. But I'm sure they could manage it between them.

Shauny Wright Wright Wright!

So close to being a good team :P

Rate Terry higher than Campbell then? Why's that?

Terry did nothing wrong and getting dropped just because he came back from injury (having hardly played) was a poor decision, even if we didnt concede a goal ;) Terry is more of a leader than Campbell, need someone like him at the back with Rio.

I disagree :D I think Sol is a great leader on the pitch and an all round better defender than Mr Terry. So powerful in the air too.

It's good that we have such competition at CB though, probably stronger in that position than any other nation.

Defoe had had two crap games for England , why pick him ?

26662[/snapback]

Cause Owen is off form  He is so ineffective in games. I aint rated him for years now anyway. It was obvious he'd fail at Real Madrid.

Defoe has had 2 average games in a forward 3, Owen has had no end of bad games for England...I think he's a better player than Owen. Better finisher, better touch, better movement, as quick as him...

Owen will never be dropped though.

I think its quite comical how he's made captain :D

Crap how players are named as skipper on their reputation <_<

He's never come across as having any leadership qualities, a bit like Beckham then...

Defoe needs to step up a gear though. There are plenty of strikers out there in the world that are lethal at club level but never really take that form in to international games. Owen might have his critics, but the more you slag him off you know fine well he'll score the next game. 28 goals in 60 internationals isn't a bad record really, but it could of been alot better. He has gone stale the past few years and the majority of players often do, but even when he's off form he is still our most natural goalscorer. Rooney has got to be pushed further up field again, otherwise the goals might dry up again.

I think alongside Rooney upfront Defoe can do a better job than Owen. Playing in a 3 man forward line will take the space up where he may normally make runs etc. in a forward two.

Owen's record is very good, but I would go on current form and Owen's hasn't been all that of late, give Defore a chance in a front two and I think he'll do very well.

There is that dirty little Smith though, ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

hmm he was the only one i wasn't sure about

the main reason was that you know you'll get 100% off of him and he'll really want to play, not got the skill as some but still and he might get a few games with rooney this season so a partnership possibly if ruud is injured/suspended.

if not him defoe

otherwise i'm happy, lampard and gerrard are undoubtedly 2 of the best centre midfielders int he world currently, bridge and cole provide the two natural left footers which we never have, pace, and ability to switch with each other to defend and attack. wright-phillips deserves his chance as much as any other player, rooney although is a mixed player and isn't THAT good domestically rises to the occassion of internationals very well. defence is a rock ;)

IMO this is the best England team possible at the moment. If Ashley Cole is injured than Wilcox will come into the team ;)

I would like to put Heskey in there as I do think he does his bit for the team but he just doesn't get the goals.

I think Heskey's days of international football are now behind him...thankfully! Good player but not up to international level IMO.

G Neville / Ferdinand / Campbell / A Cole

Beckham can play that holding role in midfield, he's done it quite a few times for Real, although I'm sure in the England team he'll want to drift forward.
