Basset

Read today on the match report for Leicester v Stoke and there was an interview with Dave Basset.

He says that if he lands the job full time he doesn't want it for long.He says he would be happy with having it to the end of the season.By doing this there would be more money to pay for compensation or most probably more good managers about.Personally , i think i we need to get a manager in sooner rather than later!

But if Harry and Sgt Wilko start winning games and playing good football like the first half an hour against stoke i would'nt care if they stayed!

Would you??

I don't think it would be a disaster if Bassett got the job til the end of the season. But if that happened and Bassett got us promoted - would the board still want to look for a new manager, and would Bassett really step aside to make way for the new man??

IMO Bassett is behaving very unprofessionally, whilst he has done a reasonable job since Adams left you have to ask how long this improvement in our play would last before he start to resort to hoofball especially if he is given the job on a full time basis and is governed by results, I dont think we would see so much of the free flowing football then, at present Bassett is on a charm offensive to get the fans on his side, he knows he is not a popular choice.

Secondly why should he be given another chance, he has already managed this club once and hardly covered himself in glory.

But what concerns me the most is the way he is conducting himself, constantly whoring himself around the media touting his own credentials for the job, how is he expected to give an honest, open and trustworthy opinion on any of the other candidates when he so openly wants the job himself. Also if a new manager is appointed most likely against the wishes of Bassett where does that leave their working relationship ?

The only conclusion I can come up with is that Bassett knows he has to be named Manager otherwise he is out as well, I just hope the board are sensible and dont allow Bassett too much influence when making the final important decisions.

Might be a sensible option to leave Bassett/Wilko in charge until the end of the season. I've been surprised at how well we've played at times, but a lack of consistency throughout the whole game is worrying. When was the last time we played well for the full 90 minutes? Last game I can think of was Manchester City away when we won 3-0.

Bassett does have an excellent record at getting teams promoted from this division - He's probably got the strongest squad at his disposal out of any other teams he's ever managed at this level. However, whether he can still produce the goods is another matter.

If he did get us promoted, then there is no way he should be allowed to continue, although that does sound a bit cruel. However, you've got to be cruel and ruthless if you want to have a chance of staying in the Premiership.

We do need a new manager, but we need the right manager. I would rather the board take their time and choose the right man for the job instead of making some rash appointment because of the fans getting restless.

Has everyone forgotten what happened last time Bassett was in charge.:unsure::huh::( <_<

No, but we were doomed with the state that Taylor left us in.

for someone who knows the guy.. he is sound as a pound!

i think he should be left to do the job til the end of the season.. then someone else can take over when the board has had time to think about the perfect replacement (i.e. george graham  )

List drawn up

By Bill Anderson

Leicester City step up their search for a new manager this week with caretaker boss Dave Bassett insisting that experience is going to be the key to a successful appointment.

A list of names, including those put forward by Bassett himself, has been drawn up.

Bassett, who has not applied but may be considered an option, believes the appointment cannot be a gamble on raw, untested talent, especially a first-timer on the managerial scene.

He said: "I can't see that they can give it to someone who has never been a manager. I would be amazed.

This is not a Mickey Mouse outfit, it is a big club so it has got to be someone who is experienced, if not in this league then someone who has got the potential to do well in it, like a Martin O'Neill or a Micky Adams.

"I think even Micky would admit that, when he came here with me, he knew very little about the First Division standards and players. It is a learning process.''

Bassett would back himself to step in for the rest of the season and take the team up.

"If a new face does come in, he would revert to his former role as director of football.

He said: "The board have been excellent with me and, from my point of view, they are good people and I wouldn't take the hump if they decide on someone else.

"The fact that I have indicated I might be interested is my opinion and they don't need to go along with that.

"In fact, I have given them a few names myself as I see that as part of my job.

"There is no pressure on them from me. They know where I am and, if they want to chat to me about it, then great. If not, I just get on with it.''

If someone is brought in Bassett, who has a six-month roll-over contract, would expect to stay on as director of football, the role being to act as liaison between the manager and the board and to relieve much of the administration from the man in charge who could concentrate on the work out on the training pitch.

He said: "The director of football is there to help the manager to succeed. I would want to do that and see no reason why not. My job is to help Leicester City, I like this club, it is a good club, I enjoy it, they pay my wages and I would help any manager.

"It would be totally out of order to think otherwise and, if I am not given the job, I will be delighted if the new manager comes in and is successful.''

The club insist there will be no rush, and the improvement in the form of the side recently has taken off some of the heat. But City will go through the procedures towards the arranging of interviews.

So, Bassett doesn't want someone like Pearce then it seems. And even if/when we get a new manager he'll still be here as Director of Football..

I don't see why we would need him if a new manager came in. A new manager has his own style in dealing with the board etc and Bassett only moved upstairs as Director of Football because he and MA had already worked together at Forest.

Basset, if he is up in the running for the job, should not be allowed to influence the boards decision. It's like Tony Blair voting himself in for the next election.

This is stupid now.

Bassett is contradicting himself and spouting stuff in the hope he will get the job, but covering himself by acting as a shoulder to lean on if the board want to ask him about his opinions on the next manager. He also talks about going back to director of football if he doesn't get the job, that's not on in my opinion. He is talking as if he owns this club and he's got a job whatever the outcome, i'd kick this fool right out of this club asap. The man's a joke, he's using his position as caretaker manager to front his own campaign to keep two near extinct dinodsaur's in football.

Out now I say, it's for the best.
