MON Posted 26 October 2004 Posted 26 October 2004 Oxford City's Gareth McLeary could be on his way to Leicester City if a trial at the Coca-Cola Championship side proves a success. McLeary, who was on schoolboy forms with Oxford United, has been watched on a regular basis by the East Midlands club after a tip off from City's ex-Leicester midfielder Garry Parker. On Saturday the 17-year-old, from Blackbird Leys, turned in a promising performance for Leicester Under 18s side against Coventry. And yesterday, McLeary, who is a student, was due to play for Leicester Reserves at Kettering. City boss Andy Sinnott said he was hopeful that McCleary, who can play up front or on the left side of midfield, would achieve his dream of becoming a full-time professional. "He's a really exciting prospect. If he continues to develop as he has been doing he will be a very good player. "I know Leicester's youth development officer, Paul Lowe, very well. "He first spotted Matt Taylor (now at Portsmouth) playing for Abingdon United when Paul was doing the same job at Luton. "Gareth will be with Leicester for the rest of the week. Hopefully it will end with him being offered a professional contract." Anyone know how he played yesterday?

Maybe im arguing the wrong case here about a midfielder, but I really wish they'd give Wright alot more 1st team action, even if it were the last 15 minutes of every game. It happened for Rooney, Beckham, when are the Leicester Youths going to get a chance? When their chance comes they'll probably be on loan at Blackpool or something. Onion
Cat Burger Posted 27 October 2004 Posted 27 October 2004 Nalis is a mere newt compared to some of the dinosaurs we have given contracts to!!

It's good to have a sleep in between training, Rio Ferdinand does it apparently. Any other news to report on the academy? Looking forward to meeting Craig Levein? Hows Tomi Gun doing?
