Matt Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 Anyone had one fixed before? If so, are iPod repairs expensive (I'm imagining they are) Because my iPod has got big problems, certain songs cut out half way through, songs are jumping, my iPod keeps freezing, my iPod won't update when I connect it to the PC, e.t.c.... Is it possible to get a virus on iPod (i.e - Get a virus from PC/Internet and it'll effect the iPod when transfering music? If so thats probably whats happened)
Tommy Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 I'm not sure wether you can get viruses on your iPod I'm about 90% sure that you can't but I wouldn't like to say for definate. I had to get a battery replacement for my iPod done by Apple and that set me back about £80, so they are pretty steep if thats owt to go by. I'm sure you have tried the hard reset (hold play/pause and menu down together). Other than this I'm pretty stumped. I'll have an ask around for you and see if I can find anyone else who has had the same problem
Shram Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 Ipod HD's can get corrupted, the best thing to do is do a complete restore to factory settings and then freshly install everything again including itunes and loading all your songs on. You can alternativly try the apple forum and see if anyone ther has a problem but the apple site is a bit of a shite site 2 use for support. I had a problem a few weeks ago and had to restore my ipod 4 times in a week in the end i got rid of itunes and ipod installer and installed from scratch and since then it works fine. You can also run an ipod diognostic to see if there are problems with the HD i never managed to get this to work on my ipod but its probably worth a go: (direct Link) or : If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod. 1. You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe. 2. Press and hold the following combination of buttons buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod. iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause" iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select" 3. The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons: iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select" iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select" You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. 4. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode
Cat Burger Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 A couple of people have told me that battery changes are about £30. £80 seem ridiculous.
Tommy Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 A couple of people have told me that battery changes are about £30. £80 seem ridiculous. Thats what the bloke in the Apple shop in town told me. He said it would be arounf £40 for the battery change, and £40 ontop of that for postage. Unless he was just trying to weed more money ou of me.
City Fan Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 Perfect solution: Don't buy an iPod, buy a Creative or something else instead!
Guest Gist Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 My brother got his replaced free of charge when his broke
Libertine Posted 25 March 2006 Posted 25 March 2006 Perfect solution: Don't buy an iPod, buy a Creative or something else instead! Have to agree there.
Matt Posted 25 March 2006 Author Posted 25 March 2006 Perfect solution: Don't buy an iPod, buy a Creative or something else instead! True, but not so perfect when you own one before you found out Creative or other similar things we're better, To be honest iPods at "the things" to have but there's alot much better stuff on the market IMO, I like love my iPod, but there are similar things which are just as good and iPod's are all there cracked up to be. My brother got his replaced free of charge when his broke But i'm guessing his was still under warrenty? I bought mine about 3 years ago. My mate's broke 5 times he got it replaced each time (Was still under warrenty/guarentee) after the 5th time they gave him a video one and bigger capacity as a sorry.
Shum Posted 26 March 2006 Posted 26 March 2006 Check out http://www.ukipodrepairs.com/ Probably not worth fixing it. Mine had a similar problen and I just bought a new one instead of paying the £120 it was to repair it. I sold the faulty one on ebay for £40. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMESO%3AIT&rd=1
andyb92 Posted 27 March 2006 Posted 27 March 2006 fact of the matter is ipods are crap and badly made the stats on them are awful as in 1 in 3 ipods are fkd. If your ipod is playing up after the years warranty has expired (like mine ) bite the bullet and slam it on ebay....if you clearly state it is broken you will get between 50 to 100 quid depending on model....then put that dosh towards an awesome creative mp3 player.
