MON Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 Craig has done fantastic things for Hearts. He has made us a strong side that are hard to beat. He has also proved himslef adept in Europe and knows his tactics inside out. He has been a real success story and everyone at Tynecastle recognises his achievements. However, on no occasion have I been able to watch Hearts during his tutelage without voicing my disgust at his tactics. Watching Hearts games has often been painful, the result the only positive ater 90 minutes of turgid football. Our style of play has won us few friends. Levein gets men behind the ball at every opportunity and cannot play without a big target man. In de Vries' absence that man has been Kevin McKenna, a lanky defender who the defenders constantly pump high balls to. Levein often plays him, or Kisnorbo, on the flank. The idea is to hoof diagonal balls up to them for them to knock down. It is crude and wretched to watch, but effective all the same. Hearts win more than they lose. Luckily Leicester are used to negative tactics from O'Neill's time and will probably put up with this brand of football. They won't go up this season but I wouldn't be surprised if they did well next year. Levein's physical brand of football, with the right players, will suit the First Divison. But unless he changes his tactics and becomes more astute he will never be a success in the Premiership. The long ball will only get you so far. Thats what i just heard from a hearts fan. TrickyTrev Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 I would prefer a manager who plays attractive football but I am willing to accept an effective manager even if they do play a long ball.
Bluefoxtim Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 in this case scarecrow... judge him when hes here not before
Anish Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 in this case scarecrow...judge him when hes here not before 30854[/snapback] Exactly - let's give him a chance first before worrying.
Ric Flair Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 Managers often adapt differently to different teams. I am not getting worried by what they say, otherwise we would never appoint anybody other than someone without a blemished record. I am well happy we've got Levein, I really am. The word passing get's hyped up, I doubt we'll be playing the nasty football we played under Adams. His style wasn't even hoofing, it was just clueless football.
gjp Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 When asked after a draw against celtic, he was asked about negative tacticts. His answer was along the lines of ..if we try playing passing pretty football against a far more skillfull team than ours we will be slaughtered as we have been before. Where as knowing how to play and when too has got us a point. Sounds a bit like Oneil when we played teams like Chelsea.Arsenal etc , negative or sensible? ... got a good feeling about it
Ricey Posted 29 October 2004 Posted 29 October 2004 With the players Hearts have they probably have to be negative and play the long ball, however here he will have a better quality squad with many good passers...hopefully he will see that.
