Guest Daniel Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Shock as Santini quits Spurs Tottenham manager Jacques Santini has left the club for personal reasons after just five months and 13 games in charge. The former France coach's decision to quit is a massive blow to Spurs, who had begun the Premiership season well - albeit with a scarcity of goals. Assistant coach Martin Jol will take charge of the team for Saturday's match at home to Charlton, and Spurs will make no further statement on the situation until Monday. Santini said: "My time at Tottenham has been memorable, and it is with deep regret that I take my leave. "Private issues in my personal life have arisen which caused my decision. I have therefore requested to return to France. "I very much hope that the wonderful fans will respect my decision. I should like to thank (sporting director) Frank Arnesen and (chairman) Daniel Levy for their understanding. I wish the club and the supporters all the best for the season." Arnesen has voiced the club's disappointment at Santini's decision but wished him well. Arnesen said: "We are obviously disappointed that Jacques is leaving us. We fully respect his decision. "I can assure you that the club will act swiftly to minimise the impact of Jacques' departure. Our priority is to ensure that this season's performance remains unaffected by this move. "I shall make a further statement on Monday, clarifying our position. We wish Jacques well." After a long search following the decision to sack Glenn Hoddle last season, Spurs appointed Santini in July. He helped Spurs to a fine start, but they have slipped down the Premiership table to 11th in recent weeks.
Cobbo Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 REALLY??? HE'S GONE? 33639 No, it's all a dream.
MON Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Shit, the spurs fans calling for his head on five live 606 got their wish B)
Steven Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Spurs are a pretty crap Club, that I for one would love to see in the fizzy. <_< Secondly by way of a plea let us give more time to CL than Santini got before people got on his back.
Oli Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Didn't expect this. Out of the blue or what. I thought he was doing okay.
t@f: Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 He was doing well. My friend, a Spurs Fan was very happy with his work so far. They are a really good squad but some Totenham fans wouldn't be happy even if they were winning the League every year. I am really shocked that he even took the job in the first place if he is gonna leave them in this sort of a mess so few games into the season.
Ricey Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 He resigned on 'personal reasons' so we don't know the full facts as to why he left.
Anish Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Yeah I don't think the Spurs fans moaning led to Santini resigning. It has to do something with his private life - he may not have settled into London or England very well. I for one will miss him - his interviews on MOTD were hilarious! The way he speak English is soo funny, it's a shame he won't be on anymore!
Scow Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 I'm very surprised by this, although there were a few mumbles from Spurs fans in recent weeks. Interesting...... Strachan for manager?
Steven Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 Seeing that Santini has left Spurs, you don't think CL is sitting in his hotel room at the moment thinking that if I had only hung on for one more week I could have been manager of Spurs. He is a good candidate for Spurs. Just like us they need a good shaking up, but unlike us they are trendier and therefore attract more cash. Do you think he has any regrets as he sits alone in that hotel room :?:
natas Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 They might actually try to get out of their own half now, I thought he was crap, ultra-defensive football and poor results.

The Spurs fans would expect a big name and despite his achievements, Levein isn't a big name.
Anish Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 They might actually try to get out of their own half now, I thought he was crap, ultra-defensive football and poor results. 33686 Agree with that - they haven't scored more than 1 goal in any of their league games this season. That tells the story in itself. Plus I need Defoe scoring a few goals cos he's in my DreamTeam
>>>Bevan<<< Posted 6 November 2004 Posted 6 November 2004 wot amazes me about spurs is how they can afford to spend so much money on players when they have not been in europe for years :?:

Talk is that he didn't see eye to eye with Arnesen the Director of Football
