Rincewind Posted 13 June 2006 Posted 13 June 2006 There was a thread about the 4mb speed. Can't be arsed to look for it. Anyway had my statement today and according to that I have the upgrade and I'm paying the same. Is there a way to find out what Mb the system has. I've not downloaded anything and i don't remember receiving anything to tell me how. Called them up this afternoon and lo and behold I got through nearly straight away. But (there is always a but with NTL) they told me they were having problems with the phone line and could I call back later. I expect it was to work out how I got through to them so quick. I will check out their webpage but it wasn't much help last time I looked. Called them back. Idiots. Told ne I had .750 The broadband listing online starts from 1mb. I was able to download the Broadband Plus. I'm paying £24.99 which is the 4MB price. One good thing though. He was able to give me my email and password details for NTL. Been so long since I used it I'd forgot it all.
Phube Posted 14 June 2006 Posted 14 June 2006 Yep, I too am with Ntl: and still don't know if I've been upgraded yet. They sadi by the end uf June, but how do you check easily as I'm not a computer spod!!
Daggers Posted 14 June 2006 Posted 14 June 2006 I'm meant to have 4mb with Telewest - but it struggles to reach 1 most days Idiots say "We'll sort it out right away, there you go, done!" 'Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose', said Descartes once [while on hold to Telewest]
Babylon Posted 14 June 2006 Posted 14 June 2006 Here is a speed test. Its always pretty accurate when i've used it. http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp Just google "Broadband speed check" and you'll get loads of different one to use. I have been told that i've been upgraded like you, but the speed still hasn't changed as yet so don't panic if it's still 2mg. Should be all sorted by the end of the month, so they say.

notar Posted 14 June 2006 Posted 14 June 2006 I too have NTL (but the 10MB) - my mates is faster and he is on 1MB. Best speed test I have used (when it comes to NTL) is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/ Give it a try!

Just used the above (after ugrading me Java) and although I haven't been upgraded yet, I'm impressed my speed was 1.922Mbs!! Not bad...
Rincewind Posted 15 June 2006 Author Posted 15 June 2006 I tried one. Most of the test was OK except for the download for Britain/Europe which it says has problems. But I looked at the help notes and it says if you go from dial-up to Broardband, the system still runs on the dial-up speed at times because it takes time to adjust. Well I've been on Broadband a few years now so it have worked out by now. Recently, up to a few days ago my web pages were taking ages to load, so I restored the PC to an earllier date (a week) and it worked. You don't lose anything that's been saved.
