Our current squad

You must be kidding, we are relegation candidates once again.

Goalkeepers - Douglas is better than Henderson but that doesn't say much; both are scary, although too many people defend Henderson just so they can fulfill their prejudices towards Douglas.

Central Defence - Other than Kisnorbo, Stearman and Gerrbrand the rest are mediocre at best, MacAuley gets far too many mixed reviews for a lower league player. So many fans want a new Steve Walsh and McCarthey has been identified as the one, IMHO he isn't that good.

Full Backs - well Kenton and Maybury cover right back, and if Johansson is considered a left back we are in trouble. Sheehan won't make the grade.

Wingers - Low and Sylla and judging by personel at present Hughes for the left we are screwed.

Central Midfield - Williams is a sand dancer, Weslowski clearly has talent but who knows how he'll return and Johnston is 'interesting'.

Forwards - Hume & Fryatt are excellent, but we don't have the quality of players to bring the best out of them. Hammond and O'Grady are poor and de Vries will never get the chance to make it.

We lack any sort of attacking flair and we are so ill equipped on the left hand side it is frightening, RK goes on about round pegs for round holes - we don't have a left back or a left midfielder!!!!!

It's going to be a long hard season :(

Oh and the 'Davies Out' calls will be a fixture by the international break in September.

Are your face muscles hurting? It takes less energy and muscle usage to smile, you need to do it more. Or take Pro Plus mate, you'll do yourself a mischief.

But I do agree on plenty of your reservations. You only think Douglas is better than Henderson because your a sweaty as is Rab :D . Fear not about Wesolowski, he'll over come those injury problems and aslong as Kelly let's him off his leash then I think our central midfield won't be a problem as Johnson for all his doubters is a very good player at this level and he's horrible to play against.

McCarthy isn't as bad as you make out, he was one of the reasons why we stayed up last season (not a big achievement but we looked dead and buried). We must get ourselves a specialist winger though for the left hand side. Nissa won't get exposed if we have a good left midfielder, because defensively he's adequate for this level verging on good.

McAuley will be a squad player, so will J Low. Let's just hope Kelly gets rid of dross like Sylla and Hammond and then gets in one or two players that can strengthen our first team.

Realism

I think I said this time last year I wasn't happy with the signing of Douglas, and having spent a fair chunk of change following Scotland round Europe I felt justified in my reservations. That said MO'N rated him and he played in a UEFA Cup Final!!! Henderson gives me no confidence whatsoever I am afraid and if kalac is considered a better option for Australia he can't be that good :D

I hope you are right, Weslowlski could make us millions.

The point regarding McCarthey is I don't think he is as good as many make out.

As for the rest, hence the realism

Hello am I missing something has senility finally settled in or can someone convince me that Kenton is a left back.

Sure he like Johasson, Maybury and Kisnorbo are ok for emergency cover but not for a planned 46 game assault next season.

We have Sheehan for left back that's it as far as I'm concerned the rest is all Micky Mouse (Adams) / Craig Hill (Levein) fantasy of playing people out of position.

I'm pretty happy with most of the squad, although the players im not would need to really be replaced by some quality in order to really make this season's team a lot better in my mind.

Happy With

Alan Maybury, Patrick Kisnorbo, Stephen Hughes, Patrick McCarthy, Iain Hume, Mark de Vries (I think he will finally be an okay squad player this time around), Matty Fryatt, Paul Henderson, Nils Eric-Johansson, Richard Stearman, Elvis Hammond (Could still be good if trained up a bit better), Alan Sheehan, Patrick Gerrbrand, Chris O'Grady, Conrad Logan, Louis Dodds, Levi Porter, James Wesolowski, Andy Johnson.

Not Happy

Rab Douglas - he must go, we need a decent first choice keeper.

Gareth Williams - dissapoints me more ofton than impresses me.

Momo Sylla - need you ask?

Danny Tiatto - see Sylla

Joe Hamill - terrible, get rid.

Undecided

Josh Low, Darren Kenton, Gareth McAuley.

When with us Kenton played 7 games at RB and 3 at CB. Kelly's assurance that he can play all across the back-four to me is exactly as you say, 'if desperate we can play Kisnorbo in CM/Maybury at LB', not preferable but if we literally have no LB he's better than nothing.

After my original post on this thread I did think of Johansson at LB and I'm ok with him playing there at the moment with Sheehan as back-up. Kenton being signed after my original post doesn't change my point of view though, it just confuses me. I assume that one or more of our quality CB's will be on their way out soon.
