davieG Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 Mark de Vries, the influential Hearts striker, is set to leave the club in the New Year unless he is given a massive pay hike with a link up at Leicester City under his old manager, Craig Levein, a realistic option. His agent, Armand Doon, flew into Scotland last night for talks with Hearts coach John Robertson regarding the future of the player. Doon said: "Mark has a lot of ambition and his goal and dream is to play in England. If he stays at Hearts, the club should give him more money out of respect." Losing de Vries would be a major blow to Hearts and comes at an interesting time for the Tynecastle club. Vladimir Romanov, the Lithu-anian businessman who is in the process of securing a major interest in the club, has stated in a Russian newspaper that he would pledge £10m to help them buy players. Presumably that includes keeping their top players, and a strength of his resolve will be whether he can come up with the cash to keep the Dutchman at Tynecastle. Robertson, meanwhile, will adopt a hard-line approach over the fitness of de Vries. The striker has struggled with a series of injuries this season, most notably, a poisoned toe. The 29-year-old is one of a number of first-team players Robertson is looking to begin contract negotiations with, but the coach insists he will not be prepared to play de Vries from the start of the Bank of Scotland Premierleague game against Motherwell on Saturday unless the Dutchman proves his fitness. Guest Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 There's always specualtion whenever a new manager comes in, and we are sadly lacking firepower up front at present, so this link was inevitable.
weegie jambo Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 There's always specualtion whenever a new manager comes in, and we are sadly lacking firepower up front at present, so this link was inevitable. 36567 just read the piece in my copy of The Herald, yeah it was inevitable and DeVries is definately one of CL's favored players so he was always going to get quoted in any transfer speculation. Another thing in your favor is that I get the impression that Robbo doesnt fancy DeVries. He favors a more attacking 4-3-3 with 3 mobile forwards running at defences rather than route one to a big target man that CL used to prefer, add to that his support of Dennis Wyness who never quite made it under CL but used to score for fun under Robbo at ICT and I think youve got all the ingrediants for a transfer swoop inthe window. He's only played one full league game due to injury so Robbo isnt going to be held to ransom on past seasons form. watch this space.
Mark Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 We already have enough shocking forwards who have attempted to play target man. Its time for a change it really is. I'm going to be dissapointed if we end up getting him. He sounds like another James Scowcroft.

He might be big and sound familiar to the other scrotes we've had but you can't tarnish every player with those attributes with the same brush. We've always worked well with a target man and I like it when we have a big striker upfront, I think considering De Vries has scored goals in europe he would piss this league if he was fit. Look what Ferdinand and Deane did for us, scored crucial goals for us, it's just we've been put off with Dublin, Blake and Scowy isn't exactly on fire at the minute. If we could get rid of Dublin and possibly Blake aswell i'd welcome De Vries.

Scow Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 Never seen De Vries play, but he's a targerman from the sounds of it, and we have enough of those already. <_< Do Hearts fans rate De Vries? Has he been crucial to your success during Levein's reign there?

Has he been crucial to your success during Levein's reign there? 36703 refer you to my post , despite his height he's more than an out and out target man, he gets quite a few goals when running from deep with the ball at feet and he's been crucial to our 3rd place in the SPL last two seasons and I think most Hearts fans would rate him very highly.
weegie jambo Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 whats his background ? 36749 Dutch, originally from Surinam, played in lower Dutch leagues then France but didnt make a go of it and returned to his original club Dortrect90 where CL spotted him pre season about 3 years ago.made a historic debut in SPL knocking 4 goals passed the Hibees in the first derby of the season and been our top scorer ever since.
gorgie jungle Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 you boys will not be able to meet his wage demands IMHO If robbo wants to keep him he will get the cash from Romanov.

Broken Heart Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Good luck if you do get MDV. Here's a wee insight for you though, don't say you weren't warned... He is only interested in the big games (Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Europe for us) and we can beat the smaller teams (like Hibs!) without him. He'll do well against teams like Wolves, Forest, Coventry, Leeds etc. and i've no doubt in FA Cup ties he'll look brilliant, but don't expect him to pull his weight against Preston, Rotherham, Wigan or Plymouth (though maybe Blobby Williamson will inspire him again!). If you fall to mid-table mediocrity (looking likely) then expect his agent to be touting him around anywhere and everywhere. Take my word for it that he has a bad agent. From day one at Hearts he has been stating MDV was looking for a bigger club, can't see that changing with Leicester...It may be true but let the guy concentrate on the job in hand! This season he has missed more games than he has played through injury (the last two seasons he's only played probably two-thirds of our matches) and we should give him more money out of "RESPECT". Feck off agent! It was us that took him from the Dutch second division and gave him UEFA Cup football! Hearts are concerned that there are REAL problems with the guys hamstrings. So much so that the university where our academy is are trying to come up with the answers via a revised training programme. My main fear is that there are bigger and stronger defenders in your League than ours and he'll lose interest/feign injury very quickly. This sounds like I hate the guy but if by some miracle he passes LCFC's medical then no-one would be more delighted if he was a success like Fuller at PNE. I absolutely love the guy (when he plays). Any Jambo who knocks in 4 (F-O-U-R) against the Hibs deserves his legendary status at Tynecastle. Bitter? A bit, but IMHO LCFC can't afford another uninterested (admittedly only against the wee teams) player who just wants more money than he can get at his current club.
Jonesy_rules Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 QPR are the team most likely to sign him!!!!

Scow Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 I think we've had enough dodgy agents down at Leicester. <_< It's understandable that Levein will be linked with his former players. But if De Vries has got those injury concerns you mention, then surely Levein would know about this and keep well away?

Re original thread The Herald reports today that John Robertson will sit down with 11 out of contract players including DeVries and Pressley in a weeks time to negotiate new deals.
