bigneville Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Any player from any team allowed in any formation; Buffon - The stats dont lie, only one goal conceded. Pretty mean defence to me. Lahm - Strong attacking full back, who can score the odd wonder goal. Cannavaro - Again the Italian back line has been awesome, lead all the way by this guy. Ferdinand - Took an unlikely lead in a strong English back line. Zambrotto - Big, strong and quick with bags of footballing ability going forward and back. Zidane - Slow start but has took the French team places in his final tournament Yorke - Played an outstanding role for Trinidad & Tobago in the heart of the midfield, if only they had someone else who could play football. Ze Roberto - Did a great defensive job for the Brazilians, allowing the rest of the team to attack Klose - Scored goals for his second consecutive tournament. Cannot doubt his ability Henry - Scored a couple of vital goals. Playing up front alone is not easy, yet Henry seems to do the hard work and produce some brilliance. Gyan - Was impressed with this Ghanians work rate and suprising amount of ability. I know a couple of these might seem strange selections and I might have missed a couple of players off. But i think these players have been some of the best in this tournament. What you think?
Finnegan Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Yorke's only in on merit of playing for a shit side and Ferdinand's only in because you're biased, so let's scrap them now and put in Marquez for Ferdinand and Rosicky for Yorke. Next, take out Henry whom - despite my predicting he'd be golden boot (although, granted, he still may) - has been very average and rather quiet and put in Fernado Torres who was excelent during Spain's short reign. Finally, drop Gyan for 4 - 4 - 2, add Arjen Robben to the midfield out wide and spell Zambrotta correctly and we might be starting to agree.
loza15 Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Xabi Alonso instead of Yorke. Torres/Villa instead of Gyan. Alonso's range of passing got Spain into the knock out stages and the Spanish forwards did more than i expected them to do.
dandannieldanok Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Buffon - Only 1 conceded, very steady Lahm - Attacked brilliantly throughout, comfortable for the most part in defence Cannavaro - Assured and posesses an oura around him that scares strikers Marquez - Classy centre half that carried his country through the group stages Sagnol - Superb job at keeping any winger he came up against quiet Van Persie - Sparks of excellence that showed the arsenal fans how valuable he will be in the future Maxi Rodriguez - Best goal of the World cup, coupled with some controlling displays in midfield Zidane - Finally found his feet and showed why he was player of the year 3 times Kaka - Outstanding performer in an average Brazilian team Klose - The goals speak for themselves Torres/Villa - Both netted 3 times and showed great potential and skill Pretty similar idea to you guys that have already posted
Tommeh Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Buffon Lahm Cannavaro Sergio Ramos Maxi Rodriguez Pirlo Maniche Zidane Kaka Klose Torres I've only put klose in because hes the top sorer and theres nobody else, i really dont rate him as a plyer hes like van nistlrooy only scores does bugger all else

Ultra Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 Buffon Sagnol Cannavaro (player of the tournament) Thuram Grosso Maxi Rodriguez Frings Zidane (despite his antics tonight ) Pirlo Klose Henry
shen Posted 9 July 2006 Posted 9 July 2006 GK - Joao Ricardo Ferreira (Ang) - Some breathtaking saves, and played a huge part in getting two draws in Angola's WC debut DL - Fabio Grosso (Ita) - An exciting attacking full back who won a decisive peno, scored a virtual golden goal and sealed the cup with the final penalty. Stuff of dreams! DC - Fabio Cannavaro (Ita) - The inspirational captain who helped Italy defy the odds despite his diminutive stature in comparison to other central defenders. DC - Lillian Thuram (Fra) - Was the commanding presence in a rock-solid French backline. Another routinier like Cannavaro who did his job flawlessly. DR - Phillip Lahm (Ger) - Maybe the revelation of this tournament. Always going forward whenever possible, and did a respectable job at the back too. Quality screamer to open the WC with! ML - Zinedine Zidane (Fra) - The old legs certainly showed they still had something in them, and surely he's among the greatest ever! Sadly it all ended on a bitter note. MC - Claude Makelélé (Fra) - Like Zidane he belied his age and demonstrated again what a lynchpin he is for teams, whether it's for France, Real Madrid or Chelsea. True champion. MC - Andrea Pirlo (Ita) - For me the outstanding player of this tournament. He was at the heart of Italy's play, kept it ticking over and made wonderful passes and even a good goal too. MR - Maxi Rodriguez (Arg) - Argentina deserve a player in this team for pure enjoyment. They always score great goals, and his against Mexico is among the best ever! ST - Miroslav Klose (Ger) - I knew he'd have the tournament of his life, and what a complete striker's he's become. Will beat Ronaldo's record, trust me! Deserved the golden boot. ST - Fernando Torres (Spa) - To be honest, it wasn't a striker's cup, and I'd have struggled to name one besides Klose who deserves a spot. Torres' first 3 games were excellent though. Subs: Buffon (Ita), Zambrotta (Ita), Maniche (Por), Ballack (Ger), Podolski (Ger), Ribery (Fra), Senderos (Swi)
