Nationwider Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 England: M E Trescothick, A J Strauss, A N Cook, K P Pietersen, P D Collingwood, I R Bell, G O Jones, L E Plunkett, M J Hoggard, S J Harmison, M S Panesar Pakistan: Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Faisal Iqbal, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Sami, Umar Gul, Danish Kaneria Hoggard fit. England win the toss and bat first... If there's grass on the wicket, let's play cricket!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 Come on Montyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!! (and in the Northamptonshire representative in the England team way, not in the patronising, slightly racist way)

loz Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 Dont we normally play with five bowlers? Or are Bell and Collingwood going to be bowling at some? And we are screwed if Hoggards hand gets worse
Nationwider Posted 13 July 2006 Author Posted 13 July 2006 Dont we normally play with five bowlers? Or are Bell and Collingwood going to be bowling at some? And we are screwed if Hoggards hand gets worse If required, Collngwood will be the 5th bowler. He can push it through at 80+mph on a good day. He's having a good day with the bat too. 79 not out last time I looked!

loz Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 Collingwood has got has century now. nice partnership between him and Cook. Hopefully the other batters will take note from there performances
Daggers Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 I wish I didn't have to watch 'highlights'. Top days play though from the look of it, thanks to a bit of luck.
Nationwider Posted 14 July 2006 Author Posted 14 July 2006 We shouldn't lose from this position... ....but.... Collingwood and Cook have rubber-stamped their Ashes places now. Definitely going to Oz: Trescothick Strauss Cook Collingwood Pietersen Flintoff Jones.G Harmison Hoggard And if fit: Vaughan Jones.S Giles
Nationwider Posted 14 July 2006 Author Posted 14 July 2006 End of Day 2: Eng 500+ dec. Pakistan 60-odd for 3. Let's not have a repeat of Sri Lanka, eh lads? Unleash the Turbanator!
Ultra Posted 16 July 2006 Posted 16 July 2006 ....but.... Collingwood and Cook have rubber-stamped their Ashes places now. Definitely going to Oz: Trescothick Strauss Cook Collingwood Pietersen Flintoff Jones.G Harmison Hoggard And if fit: Vaughan Jones.S Giles Vaughan is out. Bell will probably take his place. Giles will probably not be fit either, but his bowling won't be too much of a loss.. Maybe Stuart Broad could force his way into contention..
Ultra Posted 16 July 2006 Posted 16 July 2006 End of Day 2: Eng 500+ dec. Pakistan 60-odd for 3. Let's not have a repeat of Sri Lanka, eh lads? Unleash the Turbanator! He was poor in the Pakistan 1st innings. But if he's on form on the final day, we may yet snatch a win!
Nationwider Posted 16 July 2006 Author Posted 16 July 2006 Vaughan is out. Bell will probably take his place. Giles will probably not be fit either, but his bowling won't be too much of a loss.. Maybe Stuart Broad could force his way into contention.. Bell's 99% certain to go now after that century, regardless of the next two games. Perhaps this 16?: Trescothick Strauss Cook Collingwood Pietersen Bell Flintoff © Jones.G Read Harmison Hoggard Jones.S Panesar Dalrymple Anderson Plunkett with Ed Joyce and Stuart Broad on standby.
loz Posted 17 July 2006 Posted 17 July 2006 Monty has got the most important wicket for us to win IMO
Ultra Posted 17 July 2006 Posted 17 July 2006 We didn't quite have the firepower in the end. Harmison was playing his first Test in six months and the rookies came up short. Hopefully Flintoff's return on his home pitch for the next game will give us a boost.
Daggers Posted 17 July 2006 Posted 17 July 2006 We didn't quite have the firepower in the end. We didn't have the faith in our bowlers to do the job...
Ultra Posted 18 July 2006 Posted 18 July 2006 But that's not really surprising, given that Harmison was short of match fitness, Hoggard was bowling in conditions unhelpful to his style and the rookies Plunkett and Panesar are still finding their feet at Test level. Also, given the battering we took off Sri Lanka in the one-day games, confidence was not at its highest. We are still in a position to compete in and win this series.
