Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 July 2006 Posted 27 July 2006 I would like a reasonably cheap bicycle so I can bike to school instead of paying full price on the bus next year but I haven't bought a new bike for so long, I'm not sure if there's any shops which are particularly good value. Has anyone bought one recently and can recommend a shop?

Daggers Posted 27 July 2006 Posted 27 July 2006 Got to go with Collymore, although I know nothing of Leicester bike shops. All of my local shops in Brum have been really shitty on service and range ~ whereas one of our local Halfords was the dogs wotsits when it came to helping choose a new bike. Contradicting myself now, I think that your best bet is to go around a few places and chat to them about what you want. Not only will you narrow down the kind of spec you are after but you may find a place you strike up a rapport with.

True he could well stumble on someone who actually knows what a bike is and gives a damn.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 July 2006 Author Posted 27 July 2006 Anywhere that throws in a free lock and chain with any bike would probably swing it for me. I'm just looking for a bike that will pay for itself in saved bus fare. £2ish a day for five days a week would pay for an £80 bike in a couple of months. Then say I'm at school for another 7 months a year at a guess I can say to my parents "look at what I've saved you in bus fare, can I have it anyway as a reward for my forward thinking?"

Don't just view the stands, give the standholders a phone number to contact you because loads of people have decent bikes they don't use. Between £10 and £20 should get you one and it's the same with golf clubs. I watched a guy spend all morning trying to sell two full sets of half-decent clubs (with an equally decent bag) for £10 each set.
