My Mrs had depression for years (2 kids in 2 years can mess up your hormones etc), and yes it is a condition one that does have physical effects and to say it's all 'who ha' etc is abit ignorant as unless you've been through it yourself you would never know.

Anyhow, one thing it is 'treatable' and one that takes time and effort to get by BUT one thing about my Mrs is that she never moaned or made excuses for it, and certainly didn't blame her condition for circumstances and incidents in her life. She acknowledged she had a problem and took all means not to take over her life and remained fully functional.

I can't comment on Neil Lennon and his condition as all people are different and respond in different ways but if he's crying over his condition and making allowances because of it, then I suppose he will get alot of stick as he is in a very affluent position with alot of positives!!! He would have shown mopre respect to others in the condition if he didn't 'cry' over his condition, instead he should have been positive over his treatment and give hope to others!!!!

As a 30-year on and off sufferer, I understand fully what Neil Lennon is going though. Medication and therapy are essential when needed, but a major change in one's life, i.e., career, location, spouse, etc., can work wonders

We've all been depressed in the past but some of us don't need a medical expert to tell us that we are.

He may have had the clap in the past, but he wouldn't tell us about that would he? So why tell us about the depression!

There's abit of difference with feeling abit 'down' and 'depressed', then the medical condition, which is actually on some occassions is due to a chemical inbalance and hormonal inbalance which is controllable and curable by prescribed drugs.

Admitedly alot of people have used it as a soft touch, an excuse for there ailings and aren't 'clinically depressed' as it is difficult to diagnose but I feel for those that are genuinely depressed!!

My ex's mum topped herself (while my ex wasn't ex).

Thing is, it never showed. She was apparently depressed for some time, but never let it show.

Her and her husband were in the process of splitting up.

Then one long weekend, she drove down to a town about two hours away and overdosed.

It stunned everyone (I was there when the coppers came to tell us their colleagues had found her) - nobody had any real idea she was suffering like that.

Before we all start beating the shit out of each other I think we need to chill out and understand that there are many different degree's of depression and it's repercussions affect us all accordingly!

I don't however see how broadcasting the fact that you are suffering from depression is going to help you get over it, especially when you are a high profile footballer who will be ridiculed every week by opposing fans anyway.
