Thracian Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 Having completed 30 years service with her company my sister has been invited to choose herself a gift for a certain sum of money in recognition of the firm's appreciation. She's chosen to help fund a medical team who will visit a village in Africa for the purpose of removing cataracts and conducting other procedures to vastly improve the residents' quality of life. She's done some daft things in her life, but she's a special girl my sister and it's little things like that which make me very proud of her.

crazy horse Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 why does everyone want to do good stuff in africa ? whats wrong with helping out here
Thracian Posted 29 August 2006 Author Posted 29 August 2006 why does everyone want to do good stuff in africa ? whats wrong with helping out here She already does. It's just hard to imagine people being blind for years when they don't have to be and especially when so much can be done to change that and for so little money.

Alexikokopops Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 there's a 3 year waiting list for cararacts here I imagine in the village in question theres no opportunity of getting them operated on.

Alexikokopops Posted 29 August 2006 Posted 29 August 2006 right on, its more of a cause celebre if its in africa That phrase doesn't really work here. And I was merely pointing out the main flaw in your response, I'm not fussed either way. Thracian's sister still did a pretty good thing now.
