Agreed.

What do people expect in McCarthy? He has his flaws but he's an honest, 100% player who gives his all. If he cut down on his silly fouls (and bookings) and didn't give the ball away so much, he'd be a classy defender who would be out of our league!

I get the feeling Leicester fans just love to whinge about one thing or another - we've just won 3 games on the spin (all featuring McCarthy), keeping 3 straight clean sheets, and yet fans have to find somebody to castigate.

Well someone did ask and it would be rude to ignore them :) , and the question was loaded 'do you think he's good enough to take us to another level?'

Well no one knows for sure, it's all opinion and it would be naive to expect everyone to say simple yes don't you think.

I've actually voted undecided, because as you say "If he cut down on his silly fouls (and bookings) and didn't give the ball away so much, he'd be a classy defender" well if he doesn't he'll never amount to more than an average Championship defender with a lot of heart.

Edited to say only 8 people out of 80 have answered a definite no, so hardly a vendetta.

Totally agree Anish.

I don't really understand the motivation for the question but am delighted that less than 10% have voted 'no'.

Maybe we're not such a miserable bunch after all, eh?

Voted yes. But I have reservations.

McCarthy seems to be a bit burdened with the captaincy this yearwhen I expected it to inspire him.

He still gives his all but I wouldn't say he's been outstanding at all this season and he still needs to improve his

distribution.

You could say the same about Kisnorbo's passing but the Aussie has been an inspiration. He has looked like the captain to be honest and his commitment to saving tackles has been there for all to see ashas his determination in the opposing box to grab himself a couple of goals.

McAuley, sadly, doesn't look the part to me. I hope I'm proved wrong but while he has goodish control he doesn't seem to have the pace or the awareness to be outstanding.

Even now though I feel if McCarthy and Kisnorbo are our centre-backs we won't concede many.

But what happens when McCarthy is (inevitably) suspended?

Are we up the creek without a paddle without the McCarthy/Kisnorbo partnership?

I think McCarthy's suspension would be a good time to give an Academy defender a chance... Jay Smedley perhaps.:whistle::doh:

Stearman can play centre back cant he?

But hasn't played there for us much (once or twice?) so I'm not sure he'd be automatic choice.

I think if it happened next week, and the intention was to keep the same team as for Southend, Kenton would move to CB and Stearman would go to RB. Obviously, the outcome would be different depending on injuries/current form/the current starting 11 etc etc.

Yeh.

I thought Stearmans posititon was centre back but Levein play him right back.

I suppose him and Kenton are simular players and could play each position equally as well.

:yesyes: Stearman's natural position is CB.

He plays RB because he's got plenty of pace and can be useful for bringing the ball out of defence up the wing, I guess.

Kenton seems to be useful all across the back four (genuinely so, as opposed to Kisnorbo - who CL claimed was just that flexible but probably isn't). I think I'd keep Stearman out on the right and put Kenton into the centre if that's a choice I had to make. I think that's the sensible way to position the two of them.

Stearman is better going forward,Kenton is probably the better defender out the two.

So prob best to place them the way you say if we do get suspensions.

Assuming of course Kenton isn't injured. Assuming Kenton isn't playing LB. It could all change depending what the back four looked like pre-suspension. ;)

Knowing our back four, they'd all be suspended at the same time.

MDV and Elvis centre backs.

Would they do the job?

MDV might be useful at defence. Just get him to stand in people's way.

Otherwise, I'd have MDV on one of the posts for set pieces against us.

Afterall, he's not likely to score from there for us, might as well put him there to stop the opposition. :P

Elvis in defence is an interesting prospect. Don't think it's his style, though. :D

Well Elvis cant shoot so he must be better at clearing the ball...

MDV can just stay on the post all game, cause less damage from there.

Now stay there and dont move, unless the ball comes either side of you :P

I've drafted a quick instruction guide for an MDV standing at a goalpost, trying to defend a set piece.

Situation: Your name is MDV, and you're standing at one of the goal posts defending a set piece

In case of ball, try to score..

Yet he still failes to find the net from such a close range.
