Leicester City's under 18 side gained a 4-2 victory at Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.

Max Gradel (2), Billy McKay and Jailow grabbed the goals on the day - making it back-to-back wins for Steve Beaglehole's side following last weekend's 3-0 victory over Stoke.

Academy manager Jon Rudkin said: "We didn't defend as well as we should have done in the first half and went in 2-1 down at the break.

"But the lads turned it round in the second half and thoroughly deserved the victory.

"It was a very hard fought game. Ipswich are well renowned for producing good young players and they are a strong side.

"Overall it was a good performance and we are happy with the start that we have made to the season."

and Ipswich are known to have a VERY good youth setup, one of the best in the country I believe

They do, Ipswich won the Youth Cup the season before last. This was an away victory which makes it even more impressive.

Max Gradel is awesome, get him on that right wing. Him and Porter will cause havoc.

Nice to know someone else is also smelling the coffee, Mark

Gradel can't be too far off scoring a goal a game since last January which is phenomenal for a winger.

I do wish the OS would do a more detailed report though.

And who's the picture of? Is it Billy McKay cos he's not one I've watched much before yet he's started to score regularly?. And how good is Jailow?

Ipswich are an exccellent side but I think they've just lost their top scorer whose gone on loan to a League club for first team experience which might put the result into a little perspective without meaning to take devalue what was in any case an excellent away win.

The picture's of Mckay but I know very little about Jailow. My guess would be that he's one of the group of youngsters that were brought in at the beginning of last season from outside of the club like Gradel, Tejan-Sie and Odhiambo. Might make more of a name for himself this season because I can't remember seeing his name mentioned very often last season for the under 18s.

Good to see, seems we've got quite a good youth set up. Hopefully more will be breaking through to the first team in the next 3 seasons.

I think it's a case of success starting to breed success because I doubt the club has been as well off for promising young players in decades and the success of people like Stearman, Wesolowski, Porter, O'Grady will only provide the others with added incentive.

I also think the fans are beginning to recognise this. Some of the scepticism is disappearing to be replaced by interest and increasing encouragement.

With Logan and Sheehan it means that six Academy graduates youngsters have worn a first team shirt in the last 12 months and there's Dodds and Gradel who cannot surely be ar away. Eight players in 12 months! And every indication that there are more to follow, like Chambers, King, McKay to name but three off the cuff.

I don't know Jon Rudkin but I've seen Steve Beaglehole in action and he is non-stop when it comes to helping, encouraging and urging our players forward. I hope the club are fully aware of the value of these people and others because it is immense.

It is the aspect, more than anything else, which gives me faith in the club's future and I just hope that the Board appreciate it and never allow the club's finances to deteriorate so badly that the set up is threatened.

Whatever criticism the board has had to face the Stearman decision impressed me. It suggested that we can cope financially, and that the directors are determined to get more young players through to further boost the club's assets.

That being the case I've completely revised my opinion about even considering the sale of Belvoir Drive because it won't be necessary, there will be no insurmountable financial crisis to get over. The kids could only be City's salvation if the club believes in them and I'm starting to think they really do.

It's a nice thought for our future - at least judging by what I've seen already.

And if anyone's inclined to accuse me of changing my stance then it's a testimony to some of the things which you people have said and it's also in response to the faith that's been demonstrated by the board.

If they are effectively saying our finances can cope I'm absolutely delighted and am already looking forward to their policy being vindicated. Here's to happy days!:thumbup:

The future is bright if we can keep hold of everyone. How long till the vultures descend? And I'm not necessarily talking about our players either...

A better title would have been:

Young Guns Fire Four past Tractor Boys

Seriously, the author of this article really missed a trick or two there.

Don't want to take anything away from the article, though, it's still good news. Good to see the Academy off and running in style at the minute. 7 goals in two games is a pretty good return, I'd say.

This was repeated because computer technology sometimes does its own thing!.
