MON Posted 9 December 2004 Posted 9 December 2004 I can remember people saying he should leave the club. i was not one of them. He has prooved himself with a run in the side. I think if he continues like this for the next 5/6 games, he should be given a new contract or someone will snap him up.
Mark Posted 9 December 2004 Posted 9 December 2004 Release him at the end of the season. He's done ok but we can do better surely? Depends what league we're in i suppose realistically, but i'd still say release him if we stay in the Championship.
MON Posted 9 December 2004 Author Posted 9 December 2004 So you think we should keep him in the premier league, or you think we are going down to league 1
Scow Posted 9 December 2004 Posted 9 December 2004 We're not in any position to offer any existing players contracts in 9 games time.
Anish Posted 9 December 2004 Posted 9 December 2004 Exactly. Wait until the end of the season before offering new contracts - Gillespie ain't good enough to get a better club than us before then, so it should provide him with an incentive to play well. If we gave him a new contract now he could go back to his lazy self again.
Jordan Posted 10 December 2004 Posted 10 December 2004 I feel that it's not the club's turn to make a move, but rather it's up to Gillespie to continue to prove that he's worth having on the right wing.

Gillespie has only just started playing anywhere near the level that earned him his name. To reward him already, is naïve. Afterall, he got paid a whole years wages without producing anything noteworthy. It's about time he earned his money, but having said that, I'm glad he's doing well under CL. But we should definitely wait to the summer before offering him a new contract.
TrickyTrev Posted 10 December 2004 Posted 10 December 2004 Unles Gillespie continues his reformation we should no way consider offering hima new contract. It really is up to him to show that he is worth keeping, I am sure we could do better on the right wing! Piper??

Piper?? 45501 Totally agree, Gillespie is in all senses of the word a 'has been', he may show glimpes of being back to how he once was, but the fact is, the minute he gets that new contract he'll go back to the lazy, good for nothing player he has been for a couple of seasons now, I mean he didn't do anything noteworthy in his later days at Blackburn so why should we expect more if we were to get promotion!? Saying that however, I do believe if we don't get promoted then he could be worth a look as if he can prove that he can still play, then he should be a decent player for this league for another season or so!
Durnerz Posted 11 December 2004 Posted 11 December 2004 Put him on a month-to-month deal I say, therefore he wont be lazy
Anish Posted 11 December 2004 Posted 11 December 2004 Put him on a month-to-month deal I say, therefore he wont be lazy 45759 Well we can't do that until his contract ends in the summer, and if we gave him a month-to-month deal after that I doubt he'd accept it.

Month to month i say, keep him interested, when he loses that interest, let him go.
Teeno Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Release him at the end of the season. He's done ok but we can do better surely? I think now that he has finally got proper chance he is proving his worth. Give him a new contract I say.
