After the original translation the position of the Liberos is meant with Sweeper. In the English football the Sweeper is however actually defined as “Ausputzer†behind the defense, which has no tasks in the structure of play. In the today's football the position is occupied only rarely.
Sparky Posted 4 October 2006 Posted 4 October 2006 my sunday side usually employ me as the "sweeper" so ill tell you how it works with us. my job is to NOT pick up any opposition player and to stay free at all times . it is my job to be covering positions behind my centre back and both full backs and in effect sweep up any loose through balls and balls over the top . you also get more time on the ball bringing it out of defence and its easier to pick passes as you will have dropped off from the opponents forward line. over the years the games best sweepers have been good readers of the game . matthaus hanson etc
