hibeeleicester Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Settle! I'm taking about hand gestures. To me their is nothing wrong with someone giving you the vickies - it is a fairly gentle insult. However, the modern tendency to give one stiff finger is too much. I saw red yesterday when a motorist deemed it necessary to do this in my direction. I wouldn'thave given a sh** if he had given me the Vickies though. Anybody think I am losing the plot? (I only chased the guy for half a mile(.

Half a mile... that's not bad Nah, I know what you mean. It can be annoying, especially when totally unprovoked
Daggers Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Thought I was going to get some tips thre! I think this may be what you're after then Thracian?
lookwhaticando Posted 9 October 2006 Posted 9 October 2006 Over here they don't recognize two fingers as an insult at all. It's great, I can go around giving people two fingers and they think I'm doing the equivalent of a thumbsup. I have to explain, on a daily basis... as well as the meanings of things like Tosser and willy puller. Bloody good fun telling people things have gone a bit pear-shaped - they look at me as if I just beamed down from Mars.

Let's keep our anglicised insults to ourselves.

Try calling them "cockwand" and telling them to "go bollox".... that raises the odd eyebrow.

I've given up really... they know the words but never remember the meaning. Quite funny actually, I once said I couldn't give a toss, or something along those lines... and a fellow classmate later attempted to re-use it - she told some bloke to go "toss off". Practically pissed myself. Try calling them "cockwand" and telling them to "go bollox".... that raises the odd eyebrow. I use bollocks a lot in several contexts, usually "bollocks to that". They get the idea. There's a few words I only wheel out once in a while, just to be sensational. That's when I see the most blank stares.
