davieG Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Latest from OS Hughes Boost Stephen Hughes has presented Rob Kelly with a timely injury tonic ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Southampton at the Walkers Stadium. Hughes has been out of action since picking up a thigh injury following the 1-1 draw with Birmingham City at St. Andrew's. But City boss Kelly had some good news to report with regards to the fitness of his midfielder when speaking at his pre-match press briefing on Thursday afternoon. He said: "Stephen hasn't been able to train since the Birmingham game a fortnight ago, so it was great to see him back on the pitches this morning." And Kelly also confirmed that Matty Fryatt was continuing his rehabilitation process after it was revealed that he had an ankle problem. Kelly added: "Matty is getting better. He is a quick healer, but he is still going to be out for a few weeks. "It's quite a nasty injury. When the swelling on the area went down and we were able to scan him it became apparent that he has damaged his ligaments."
lookwhaticando Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 You suggesting we play Hughes as a striker?
davieG Posted 12 October 2006 Author Posted 12 October 2006 You suggesting we play Hughes as a striker? Or a winger, just his presence is enough.
Daggers Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 How is anyone else going to celebrate such a momentous occasion? I fancy cracking open a nice bottle of red and puffing on a fine Cubano.

I've already suggested once to day that you should behave yourself, it takes very little to get you excited you little devil. Now clam down.

lookwhaticando Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Hinder Probably. But either way, you were beaten by several hours!
steve_wilson101 Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 When I read a timely injury tonic I thought it meant he was going to be out. Ah well....

gatesheadfox Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Is this good news? only if everyone else is injured. he's a bit lightweight playing in central midfield but why we insist on playing him as a winger?!? it winds me up very badly when i see the formation and its 3 central midfielders plus a left sided one. pegs fitting holes and all that!

Put Stearman in there and it would effectively become a 3-5-2 with the way the players are naturally predisposed to play, especially as Johansson is more of a centre-back than a left-back. If that makes sense.

If that makes sense. Just say NO to Nissa's hoofing. I'd prefer a back three of McCarthy/McAuley/Kisnorbo (Kenton since Kisnorbo's banned)
Ultra Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 After the shambles witnessed on Wednesday night I'd be happy for Kelly to NEVER go with 3-5-2. We've seen how easily it can turn into 5-3-2 and that's the last thing we need, especially in home games!

Unfortunately there's not many coaches that know how to make it work, apparently.

RK certainly doesn't. He's struggling badly right now with a 4-4-2, and that's a formation he's familiar with!

Wednesday night was never a 3-5-2, well only in the imagination of McClarn. With two full backs in the wide positions it was a 5-3-2 designed and formulated to play for a 0-0 draw. The irony is that with all those defenders they still couldn't prevent a headed goal.
Thracian Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Somehow I wonder if players are not all sick to death of the theorists. Two managers stand out to me and I'd imagine their team talks would be similar. Shankly (having shown the opposition past the "This is Anfield" sign in days when tackling was still allowed): "Reet lads. Today's quite simple really. We're's genna score and they're not. And the reeson they're not gonna score is that we're genna have the ball. And once we get it I don't want tae see it away from a Red shirt til its in the back o yon net." " Good luck lads. And by the way. Use'll be shakin hands with a few fans in the kop afterwards so it'll be nice if there's smilin...for your sake. And Tommy - would yer like to say a word about what we think of losing here. Tommy!. A word will do. I need the team on the park." Or Cloughie: "You're late young man so you can go home and do some work in the garden. You should have a nice garden by the time you play again. "The rest of you have a football match to play. You're right wing and you'll get the ball in the box and you, young man will put it in the net. I don't mind how. If you bump 20 in off your knee I'll get you an England shirt. "You can wear my jumper if it makes you feel lucky but you needn't bother comein in for half-time tea if you've ignored me cos that's your job son. The only reason you live and breathe is to score and if you won't do it I'll go out there myself and show you how. What's that about bighead? Nothing? Good job. And tell your mother she should have taught you some manners."
cisono Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Has Hughes grown a bit of a beard? And is that going to make a big difference to his game?
lookwhaticando Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Has Hughes grown a bit of a beard? And is that going to make a big difference to his game? To grow a beard, he must not have shaved. No aftershave. He's lost his edge.
cisono Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 To grow a beard, he must not have shaved. No aftershave. He's lost his edge. Assuming it was his aftershave that smelt nice
Knighton Matt Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Assuming it was his aftershave that smelt nice Yeah it might have been his ballbags.
cisono Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Yeah it might have been his ballbags. Hmm I meant it could have been a deodorant or something.
Knighton Matt Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Hmm I meant it could have been a deodorant or something. I wouldn't rule out BALLBAGS at this early stage in proceedings. I'm sure this thread will continue at an exciting pace until the true nature of Stephen Hughes' fragrant scent is determined.
