Makin's clueless........

......over city failings or was he just clueless for us?

Chris Makin returns to the Walkers Stadium with Southampton tomorrow, saying he "hasn't a clue" why Leicester City failed to mount a serious promotion challenge in his season at the club.

Makin, who joined the south coast club in the close-season, was a free transfer signing by Micky Adams from Ipswich in the summer of 2004.

He made 21 appearances as City fell short of a quick return to the top-flight, and he said: "We were favourites to go up and signed a lot of experienced pros, but it just didn't come together for some reason.

"I haven't a clue why because we had all the makings of a good team with a lot of experienced pros who had been promoted before, but we didn't gel and it ended up a disappointing season."

Southampton are likely to be boosted for tomorrow's game by the return of captain Claus Lundekvam from injury.

Lundekvam has not featured since being stretchered off in the opening game of the season against Derby with an ankle problem.

The defender played the first half for Southampton reserves in midweek and is now in contention for a recall.

Manager George Burley could rest left-back Gareth Bale, 17, after he played for Wales in their two European Championship qualifiers. Bale became the country's youngest international goalscorer in the defeat by Slovakia. and Burley has hinted he may give Bale a rest.

Definitely out are Michael Svensson, who is continuing his rehabilitation from a long-term knee injury, as well as Darren Powell (knee) and David Prutton (ankle).

Burley has problems on the right of midfield where Djamel Belmadi (thigh) and Nathan Dyer (calf) are both expected to miss out. But that is offset by the return of playmaker Inigo Idiakez after a hamstring injury.

Matty Fryatt (ankle) is City's only definite absentee. Stephen Hughes, who has been struggling with a thigh problem, should be in contention.

Defender Patrick Kisnorbo completes a three-match ban for his sending-off at Hereford.

To be fair although we signed the wrong sort of players, they should have been good enough to get us promoted because on paper it was a strong team but lots of them were here for their last big pay cheque. Makin's right there, but he was one of the reasons why we didn't get promoted. He was crap.

Good players, maybe on paper, alot of them were experienced but didn't live upto expectations, and Makin was one of them!!!

It's because we signed players like Makin - what a dire team that was. We might eb appalling now but at least we've got some youth and enthusiasm in the squad, not just a binch of washed up players earning one last pay check.

Scimeca and Thatcher were a touch disloyal, but after relegation we couldn't afford to keep them on.

Harsh fact I'm afraid.

Makin (away at Sheffield United especially) that season was criminal.

That team was awesome on paper but ****ing shit on grass (I wouldn't be surprised if half of them literally were.)
