Muz Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Dion to U's Crazy they want to speak to him about the possibility of him becoming manager :w00t:
Wellman Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 and just after he's started playing well for us:
spirefox Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 If it gives us the chance to freshen the squad up He's got to go.
Guest Daniel Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Brilliant, made my day. Who's hosting the party?
Anish Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Great news, hope he goes but I would be surprised if he actually did. Cambridge - take him please!
Cobbo Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Does he have any coaching badges? Him going would also mean there's more chance of Heath and Dabizas playing
emmalcfc Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Him going would also mean there's more chance of Heath and Dabizas playing 46130 Might give Stearman a greater chance though

Looked the best thing since sliced bread at right back though
Jonbluefox9 Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Dion turned down Coventry on loan earlier this season as he felt he could go on loan and play for a bigger team so I can't see him wanting to go to Cambridge to become manager.
Shum Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Don't get me wrong, think Stearman had a cracking first half yesterday and second hlaf everyone was pants. If he wants to play centre back he is going to have to get in the gym and get built up. One thing I like about him a lot, is that he was very comfortable on the ball.
Scow Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 I can't see this happening. He's on good wages with us and I don't think he's willing to sacrifice that in order to become a manager of a League 2 side. We can only hope Dublin has a burning ambition to become a manager...
Wellman Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 He was on BBC Sport Personality thingy earlier!
Ric Flair Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 Stranger things have happened, he's 35 and he won't get a club as good as us again. He can go to Cambridge stick a few in the net, get some managerial experience and that will open doors for him. He's idolised down there, unlike he is here. Stearman is apparently doing alot of weight training and drinking those horrible drinks that help beef you up.
Macca4lcfc Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 everyone does weight training. The same amount each. I weigh exactly the same as stears! but im smaller!!
Guest Daniel Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 I weigh the same as Williams.... the boxer.
Ric Flair Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 everyone does weight training. The same amount each. I weigh exactly the same as stears! but im smaller!! 46246 So nobody is allowed to do more weight training than the others? Everyone has to do the same amount? I'd heard that Stearman was being put under a course of training to build him up?
Macca4lcfc Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 well we all do the weight training at the same time for the same amount of time, cos if you do too much then you can hurt yourself! i think stears is probably doing less reps on heavy weight instead of loads of lighter weights, this will build muscle instead of toning....
davieG Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 I'm not sure Stearman's body weight is a major problem, sure it won't hurt to build it up a bit, after all Rio F. is hardly the Hulk is he. I believe it's more to do with mental conditioning and determination than just body bulk. Provided he believes he can hold his own then I think he'll be ok, if people keep telling him he'll be no good unless he's 'bigger' then he'll believe that and will probably fail. There are lots of examples of small and/or lightweight players excelling at football much against the perceived notion of the perfect body build.

Also, Stearman isn't the stereotypical English centre half who's built like a brick shit house and compensates talent by slaughtering their oponents. It's quite obvious how composed Stearman looks on the ball and that he likes to play the ball out of defence rather than rashly hoof it up pitch like plenty of other defenders we have. New era in defending, very much in the same mould as Ferdinand, Terry Dawson at Forest. All 3 of them aren't exactly hugely built. His physique wasn't a problem on saturday and with more confidence i'm sure it would never be an issue as he'll play his way out of defence.
Guest Posted 13 December 2004 Posted 13 December 2004 Why not play Stearman in midfield in a Viera style role? He should be better supported here, and I don't think it would be as damaging for his confidence. Plus, he seems far too skillful to play at centre-back!!
