harpendenfox Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 ........ However, lets let him develop at his pace and not credit him for our survival in the division last term and Rob's new found employment. That's just the sort of bigging up he doesn't need (or deserve). Agree with the 'don't build him up to knock him down' sentiment you're expressing, but the fact is we were 1-0 down at QPR in late January. Williams gets injured. Weso comes on. He stabilises midfield. We win the game 3-2. We win the next two games. Then the lad breaks his leg. Our results were still decent, without being quite as spectacular. I watched that QPR game. I honestly believe, somehow, Weso came on and made the difference. And now of course we need to be patient with him, and give him our utmost support, every game.
Thracian Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 Quite rightly people argue the case that he has not had the chance to prove himself in the first team for an extended period and therefore cannot be classed as over rated. Yet as with other players from the youth set up he has been hyped up to the eyeballs from his performances at a lower level - not from an extended run in the first team. I think if people were less vociferous about the world beating talents of Dawson, Petrescu, Wright, Porter Gradel, Weslowski, King etc etc etc, threads like this would have no place. For my money, he looks a decent prospect and after spending an evening chatting to him at the end of last season I would say that his head is definitely screwed on the right way. However, lets let him develop at his pace and not credit him for our survival in the division last term and Rob's new found employment. That's just the sort of bigging up he doesn't need (or deserve). I'd rather feel optimistic about some of the exciting, adventurous and committed young footballers who are blazing a trail at the top of their League than feel utterly dejected thinking about the sort of dross some of our seasonal professionals are dishing up week after week.
Ric Flair Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 Most people know my opinion on Wesolowski. He's been hyped up far more by people actually involved in football than myself. The Australian coaches have been going wild about him ever since he broke in to Northern Spirits academy team aged about 12!. If his injuries have had a permanent effect on him then it's one of the biggest wastes of talent football has seen in the modern era. Wesolowski is in a different class to any player we have at Leicester, I know it's hard to prove that through reserve and youth football but sometimes you can tell when a player has something special. Australia isn't a two bit footballing nation and to get called in to their national team at 18/19 after two serious injuries and less than a dozen first team appearances under your belt isn't done willy nilly by your average footballer.

You might be right there, but in those 3 games he was a serious contendar for man of the match in all of them if I remember rightly and he did have a massive bearing on our upturn in results. But he didn't do it on his own.
Katy Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 I know some people see him as the saviour of Leicester City but the lad doesn't need that kind of pressure. He's obviously still struggling with niggly injuries but he will come good, we just have to be patient and give him the time he needs without the added pressure of being golden boy.

It's hard not to heap the pressure on him though when you know what he's capable of.
Ric Flair Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 No-one said he did, of course. But he gave everyone a massive lift at the time. It was in response to Hullfox who had inclined that Leicester fans shouldn't be crediting Wesolowski with saving us from relegation last season.
Vo Rogue Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 No-one said he did, of course. But he gave everyone a massive lift at the time. I think that is one of his more outstanding attributes, that of making others play around him play better and to lift them. As to pressure, I think the lad loves it. He probably also needs time to get into the rhythm of football again and in reading a game properly after being sidelined for so long.
Ric Flair Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 He could get a chance again tonight if Johnson (hopefully) is out injured.

Totally Agree Ric A player who can spin on a tuppence then deliver the killer ball....... ****2 fractures have slowed his progress, he just needs a good run**** Please give your money to the church!
Hullfox Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 It was in response to Hullfox who had inclined that Leicester fans shouldn't be crediting Wesolowski with saving us from relegation last season. My point was that he didn't do it single handedly.

Exactly!!!!! It's their league, not the one the first team play in. There's a world of difference between the two.
Thracian Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 Exactly!!!!! It's their league, not the one the first team play in. There's a world of difference between the two. Not from what I've seen. If you believe the Championship is anything special from what's been seen this season, then we have different viewpoints. Furthermore it is not so much our young players who are struggling to have any effect as our older players. I wish it were different.
Ric Flair Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 My point was that he didn't do it single handedly. Which if you read above is what I also said. I was kind of agreeing with you!
gosfox Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 The lad has had two very serious injuries, arguably, if you are going to get injuries such as these then he has had them at the right time.....when he is still young enough to shake off the mental side of them as well. I personally think he will rise to be an outstanding footballer so long as he can keep himself reasonably injury free The kind of player City need to hang on to for as long as possible
Joe. Posted 17 October 2006 Author Posted 17 October 2006 I still like him as a player, and i would definitely like to see him start instead of Johnson maybe. He needs a good run in the side to get going again.
lcfc_jme Posted 17 October 2006 Posted 17 October 2006 He does need a good run in the side to get going, and I'd also like to see him play instead of Johnson - he has a better work-rate and will also put in more than 1 tackle
