Guest Posted 16 December 2004 Posted 16 December 2004 Heard on the radio this morning that UEFA (or was it FIFA) are looking at a new directive which means that at least 7 players (inc subs) must come from their clubs academy system. Not suprisingly, all the Premiership sides fielded last weekend failed! The reporter said that there would be a lot of angry chairmen out there, but it would "level the playing field", which would be interesting! I do think it is a good idea personally, and I know one or two of you lot will like it!!

Otherwise they will all do an Arsenal.
Guest Posted 16 December 2004 Posted 16 December 2004 I don't think the report went into that much detail, but they kept using the word "homegrown", but now you've mentioned it.....oh dear! I've tried finding a report on the Interweb, this might have more details, but I've no luck yet.

Ricey Posted 16 December 2004 Posted 16 December 2004 Hmm.....I think this would cause havoc in Europe. I think it's a bad idea, I mean the standard of football around the Europe would slip drastically. Maybe reducing it to 3 would be better.
Matt Posted 16 December 2004 Posted 16 December 2004 I don't think they should neccesserily have to come through the Academy but I am against Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd, e.t.c who have a team based around Foreign players, I think they should make it they must play 7 (Possibly slightly less than 7) players who come from the teams country. I.E...Arsenal MUST have atleast 7 (as I said before possibly less) english players in there team, Real Madrid MUST have at least 7 spanish players in there team...e.t.c. Because yes the forigners are brillient, and they do make the English league exciting but if we had more English players in the game, England as an international team may become better!
Mark Posted 16 December 2004 Posted 16 December 2004 We aint got a chance of meeting that rule then. Pretty good idea though.
