Craig Levein not impressed

Craig Levein admits he has been surprised at the paucity (lack of ;) ) of quality in The Championship since his appointment as Leicester City manager.

The former Scotland international took over at The Walkers Stadium at the start of November, after quitting his post as Hearts boss.

But, after carving out his managerial career in Scotland, where the standard of football is regularly ridiculed, Levein has not been impressed by the fare south of the border.

Levein feels his old club could easily acquit themselves in The Championship and would be more than a match for his present Leicester side.

The Foxes chief also backed the claims of Celtic and Rangers to be making an impact in The Premiership, after declaring himself disappointed at the Championship standard.

"I think Hearts would be better than most of the teams in The Championship, where the standard isn't brilliant," commented Levein.

"Celtic and Rangers would certainly be midway up the English Premiership and I would think Hearts would win this league.

"The Premiership is exceptional but this league isn't."

Well it does put into perspective his views on his current squad of players. Now we know the problems he's having picking a team as he thinks they are mostly conference level players. It also throws some light on why he's interested in this Kirk guy, having played for Hearts he must reckon he's better than what he's got.

Hopefully this means he thinks he'll get us promoted, rather than him thinking he's too good for this and getting lost sharpish.

That is the subtext. That is to say that this league is so bad that even we could get promoted. ;)

Well what he says is true. The starndard of this league isn't mediocre it si crap. There are few footballing teams and very few exciting talents.

The standard of the premiership is proabbaly a lot higher than Lavein presently realises, the step up is massive.

Well we need to improve vastly to even make the playoffs at this rate - so what does that say about the standards at LCFC?
