There are rumours on another forum that Man U are looking at Joe Mattock.:ph34r::(:whistle:

Thanks for the note.

He's right up their street I'd say - exactly the kind of full-back ther've liked since the days of Dennis Irwin.

He's a really busy player is Mattock.

Not especially pacey by attackers standards but he's got plenty of skill, plenty of confidence, he likes a tackle and is good in close situations.

I think he's too young to be allowed to play in our side right now - he's only 16 if memory serves. But Irwin, Heinze, Neville are all in the same mould - energetic guys who love to race forward and help sustain attacks.

Sadly, we'll still be plodding away with our specialist defensive full-backs into the next millennium the way things are going so if he's wanted, the chances of us keeping him are zero and one just trusts United would have the decency to offer a fair deal.

To me, despite the young players who have come through here, one of the great remaining problems is we don't seem to be developing the sort of side that will compliment their style. We are simply too slow to move forward.

We persist with people who are going nowhere instead of getting the fringe youngsters through and trusting them to adapt quickly, which so many do. Even if we didn't do that we should replace the dead wood faster because such players simply hold up team development.

Pass and move with constant support is the way forward and there should be no compromise if we're not going to lose our youngsters before they ever play for us. And getting our reserve team operational again!

Mattock is a fantastic prospect, I remember his performance against Chelsea reserves last season and he stood out a mile. He played left wing that match and was the best player on the pitch, Chelsea were all over us that game but Mattock stood his ground and kept their right sided players very quiet.

It wouldn't surprise me if Man United were after him, but he's got some competition ahead of him to get in there. Not only the current first team players but even the youngsters in his position at United are quite special. It would make sense for him to stay here for the time being. Unless Man U offer us a silly price for him (something I doubt they'd do) then we should do everything possible we can to keep him.

Yeah I know that, but sometimes clubs offer the youngsters club quite a sizeable transfer fee and don't go down the tribunal route. Man United have done this before, i'm sure they paid about £1 million for two Wimbledon youngsters about 4 years ago.

Arsenal did it with Walcott aswell, although that's slightly different given Walcott's reputation and exploits in the first team for Southampton.

Lee Martin?

Mattock looks quality from what I've seen of him.

I'm sure they bought both brothers. There may also be a third brother who went to Liverpool? Or he may not be related, the ginger goalie?

David Martin I reckon. I know Lee is up at Rangers on loan from Man U and he's showing alot of promise, you've got me on the thrid Martin though.

I might be wrong, there may only be two and perhaps United were linked with both but only signed Lee in the end. Lee Martin is very talented, so I can see why United paid out of court for him.
