Bye Bye Dowie

Agreed. Its basically like the MoN affect on Leicester.

Im not too sure but were Charlton in the First Division when Alan Curbushley took over? If so, he took them to the Premiership when they probably over performed but did very little. I assume that if they go down, they're the next Leicester. :pinch:

They have been sensibly run and with the parachute payments, even if they did get relegated, with a decent manager, they would be straight back up.

my point entirely!

They are really over-rated and I think eveyone assumed Dowie was ingeriting a good team. He wasn't. He inherited a team which Curbishley made a good team.

Dowie has been judged on Curbishley's standard and it really isn't fair on him!

They've got enough prem players there to compete. Players like Matt Holland, Talal El Karkouri, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Dennis Rommedahl and Hermann Hreidarsson on top of the ones you have already mentioned gives them a squad capable of a safish bottom half finish. Had they stuck with Dowie a bit longer than may of achieved that however this going to do even more damage to a team already in turmoil. Personally I think it's massive mistake sacking him and it's one that could reasult in Charltons relegation.

Rarely disagree with you but I think they've done the right thing. I was surprised they appointed him in the first place.

I believe they may have been a little hasty.

Having said that, he really did have the manner of Levein about him. Bordering on apathy with his calmness, stressing how hard they were working on the training ground, mentions of the rub of the green etc...

Perhaps he was a defeated man.

Feel sorry for him to be honest. Yes he didn't do well but to sack him 12 games in? There's still a long way to go

Don't think anybody will come in and do much better. Apparently their performances were starting to pick up recently anyway. Bit of a rash and harsh decision I think

T'was on the cards and I can hardly say I'm suprised by this. Curbs won't be going back there, but it'll be interesting to see who they'll bring in this time.

Maybe they'll bring in Mike Newell after he gets the sack from Luton

From Sky

Charlton Athletic chief executive Peter Varney confirmed Les Reed has been appointed the club's head coach.

Reed has been promoted to the position following Iain Dowie's sacking, although it had been presumed he would only be in charge on a caretaker basis.

However, Varney has stated Reed and new assistant coach Mark Robson have been given their respective jobs on a permanent basis.

"Les Reed and Mark Robson will step up and run the team," Varney told Sky Sports News.

"We are probably looking for a third person to come in and help them. We feel we need stability more than ever.

"They are both Charlton people and have a very strong Charlton pedigree. We've very, very confident they will start to turn this club around.

"We think he's an exceptional coach with a wide range of international experience. We think they make a good team.

"One thing we do know is they are committed to turning things around here.

"We want to give them the opportunity. We hope they succeed."

Varney has rejected the suggestion that Charlton dismissed Dowie after panicking at the club's poor start to the Premiership season.

"We had to do something and we had to act to remedy the situation and that's why we have terminated Iain's contract," he added.

"(The fans) have to trust us. We've been here a long, long time. They know how the club is run.

"The board would not take hasty decisions if they did not feel it was in the best interests of the club. This is not a panic measure."

There was 'player unrest' in the Charlton camp apprently, which was the main reason. The sun said one of their players went for him in training this week because he was being a pr**k. Not actual quote :P
