lildave3 Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Dowies left Charlton! Might start doing well now.
Guest Gist Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Really! I thought he'd have a bit longer myself.
Wils Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Do you think Simon Jordan would have him back? :pinch:
Steven Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Curbishley to return and save them! Come to us and save us. No surprise Dowie went, looked like a rabbit in headlights.
Maybes Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Where can you see him going now? hahaha more fool him.
Steven Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Where can you see him going now? Some First or Second Division small Club in the North West.
Guest Gist Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Some First or Second Division small Club in the North West. Isn't that what he told Simon Jordan so he could leave and then went a few miles up the road?
Brummie-FOX Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 There are still plenty of very good managers around. Joe Royle, Alan Curbishley. Not saying that Joe would fit the bill though.
Tommeh Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 They shouldn't have got rid of him not yet anway. They have been overachieving for years and onlky have say 3 really good players in Bent, Carson and Young. It was always gona be hard replacing Curbishley and as long as Dowie would have kept thm up he'd have done a good job.

Tommeh Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Carson's not even their player! my point entirely! They are really over-rated and I think eveyone assumed Dowie was ingeriting a good team. He wasn't. He inherited a team which Curbishley made a good team. Dowie has been judged on Curbishley's standard and it really isn't fair on him!
Bert Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 No doubt the usual people will be linked, Cotterill etc.

Im not too sure but were Charlton in the First Division when Alan Curbushley took over? If so, he took them to the Premiership when they probably over performed but did very little. I assume that if they go down, they're the next Leicester. :pinch:
lookwhaticando Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 No doubt the usual people will be linked, Cotterill etc. Newell, Cotterill, Davis, Curbishley (), Robson, Kelly...
Guest Gist Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Newell, Cotterill, Davis, Curbishley (), Robson, Kelly... Or they might tempt Adams from Cov
lookwhaticando Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 Or they might tempt Adams from Cov Peter Taylor (second time lucky)
Milky Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 bit of a similar situation to leicester really. dowie has spent over 10 million, which is nothing compared to twat with 25 mill, but some comparison charlton are an established prem side, as were leicester sacked at a similar time during the season as taylor was, though granted taylor had longer in the job. both took over from a legendary manager and did their best to destroy the hard work.
lookwhaticando Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 At least Charlton won't be sent into bankruptcy soon after relegation. Their financial foundation is pretty sound and they should be in good shape even in the event of relegation. They've run a tight ship for years. We let a madman loose with an open wallet and we paid the price as we just had too much going on at once. That's the different between the clubs. The managers differ mostly by the amount of money they spent.
Ultra Posted 13 November 2006 Posted 13 November 2006 12 games is a ridiculously short time to judge a manager. It's not as if Charlton are miles adrift like Sunderland were last year. With a number of poor teams in the top flight, Dowie could have easily turned it around. But with the massive compo he'll pick up, he can afford to pick and choose where he moves to next. Charlton might just have sealed their fate today..
lookwhaticando Posted 14 November 2006 Posted 14 November 2006 Completely unsurprisingly... Derby boss Billy Davies is likely to be among the candidates to replace Iain Dowie as Charlton manager. (Various) Cardiff boss Dave Jones is also a front runner to take over at The Valley. (Daily Express) Former England manager Glenn Hoddle leads the contenders and is admired by Addicks chairman Richard Murray. (Daily Mail) Tuesday's Gossip Column I guess Peter Reid hasn't been alerted to this managerial opening just yet. Surprised Bryan Robson hasn't been tipped for the post - after all, he came in and saved West Brom that time.
