davieG Posted 27 November 2006 Posted 27 November 2006 Hammond is a striker. Sylla is a winger. His priority is to supply the goals and not score them. Can you send him a pm as he seems to have largely forgotton that.
The People's Hero Posted 27 November 2006 Posted 27 November 2006 It should also be noted that Sylla has been our most effective option on the wing. He's supplied a number of assists. More effective than I can see Hammond being out there. Or anywhere.
BartonFox Posted 27 November 2006 Posted 27 November 2006 What! absolute crazyness must be mad as a hatter McCarthy is one of a select group of players at LCFC that IMO care about the club and the fans. he does not mess up half as much as the rest and did you see him at the end of the match on satdi came over to the fans again and applauded that make him a top bloke IMO Looks like a calmer version of a young steve walsh Sorry but badge kissing and geeing up the fans to mask his inabilities doesn't wash with me, nor did it with Dion Dublin. He's a liability.

More effective than I can see Hammond being out there. Or anywhere. He's supplied three assists and I doubt he had more than a couiple all last season. How that compares with four goals let alone the seven or eight he actually netted I don't know. To Barton I'd say Sylla is from Guinea (unless Manwell tells me different ) and as far as Scottish footballers are concerned there was no-one I liked more than Davie Gibson in City colours then to mention Ian King and Frank McLintock. It's one I doubt we'll ever agree on - except that neither are what we really need.

He's a liability. I agree 100%. I like paddy M but he seems to be 100% effort which helps disguising a lack of ability
lildave3 Posted 27 November 2006 Posted 27 November 2006 Yes but Sylla is Scottish and a Leiven type so he must be dicarded forever. He's about as Scottish as Conrad Logan
BartonFox Posted 27 November 2006 Posted 27 November 2006 He's about as Scottish as Conrad Logan Yes I know that <_<
potter3 Posted 28 November 2006 Posted 28 November 2006 Can you send him a pm as he seems to have largely forgotton that. he was actually 3rd in our assists last season Only behind Gudjonsson and Williams, then again they made up a quarter of our assists. And this season he is equal third, with one If you want to pick the team, based on assists, the midfield would be Low Williams Tiatto Sylla Edit: This is counting only the leagues, not the cups
Lord Nibblington Posted 28 November 2006 Posted 28 November 2006 As yes. Let's pick the team on statistics. Tis a great idea! Sod ability. I can't be bothered to do any actual work, but I'm sure someone could find some good old statistics to support the fact that Liverpool shouldn't play Stevie G in the league since he's only got 1 goal. Or something. You get my point.

Lord Nibblington Posted 28 November 2006 Posted 28 November 2006 I was joking Twasn't aimed at you. Was aimed more in the general direction of the whole thread.
TheShrew Posted 28 November 2006 Posted 28 November 2006 Twasn't aimed at you. Was aimed more in the general direction of the whole thread. The thread is about the starting eleven from each match so far and who has been involved in each fixture. It therefore shows everyones involvement in the good the bad and the downright ugly so far. It isn't a claim that statistics should be used for team selection or assists and goals decide teams, far from it and by reading the thread before bashing it you'll realise the creators intentions. Thread basher.
linekar78 Posted 29 November 2006 Author Posted 29 November 2006 Twasn't aimed at you. Was aimed more in the general direction of the whole thread. It's a good idea to look at the first post in a thread to get what it's about - people have obviously talked about selecting teams based on the stats but that wasn't what I stated at the beginning. It was to discuss which players seem to be playing when we win, draw or lose. It was also a basis for my feelings that maybe players have an effect on the result which is not in direction proportion to their talent, e.g. Hammond / Fryatt. Few will argue that Hammond is a technically better striker but the facts are we've done better with him on the pitch than Fryatt. People who write off stats without considering them to have any value are as ignorant as those who accept them at face value.
