bold_fox Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 In the process of designing a website for work and would like people to help me out. Suggestions of Software to use etc. would be great. Also, are there any web designers than use this forum ? do they have any suggestions ? Also, places where to get templates ? artwork ? Flash objects ? etc.... Many thanks.
Shram Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 You want to use something like Adobe Phootshop, for the design and graphics, Dreamweaver to build the site, Flash if you really want a lot of dynamic animations, banners etc... sites like http://www.good-tutorials.com/ will give you photoshop ideas and also some web layouts in tutorial format.
bold_fox Posted 30 November 2006 Author Posted 30 November 2006 Thanks Shram, What about if i want to use Flash and all that ? Can you recommend software ? websites ? etc. Do you design your own websites ?
Shram Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 For Flash the best tools are Flash itself and Photoshop for the design, I do some web design but find the field a nightmare to get into (from a grad point of view). This is a neat site for some pretty good flash tricks: http://www.kirupa.com/ or http://www.gotoAndLearn.com btw all this software is stupidly expensive so I suggest Bittorrent or a software forum or I think i have the software about with cracks which i will have a look for a little later.
l444ry Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 Try this... http://www.websitesin5.com/websitesfive/home Designed my own business website with this and, after trying all the other packages, this is easily the best I've come across.

The only problem with sites like that is that you then use a template and don't have an original web presence. If this is not important then I agree - sites like that are the easiest option to get something up and running. Because the request covers a broad spectrum of potential uses maybe a more detailed use list would be handy?

cisono Posted 1 December 2006 Posted 1 December 2006 Thanks Shram, What about if i want to use Flash and all that ? Can you recommend software ? websites ? etc. I hate Flash and would avoid it like hell. If you go for a big flash thingie as main page, please make sure you allow people to skip it! PS: If you want a professional website, pay a website designer! (you can do your own stuff but it takes longer in the end...)

I think i should be able to create a pretty simple, but hopefully profession looking webpage.

lookwhaticando Posted 1 December 2006 Posted 1 December 2006 Do by all means... just remember to provide a little link with a "skip intro" option Oh god yes! While working at the furniture store trying my utmost to source pricing information from a wide range of suppliers, I encountered a most hideous of websites. Every time you clicked 'home' it took you to the splash screen. It never remembered you had seen it, and it did not have a 'skip intro' option. Worse still, this animation essentially 'built' the website before your eyes, which was very cool in theory... but it was like a 30 second intro every time you clicked 'home' or reloaded the website/navigated back to the website later. Each time I had to go to their site, I'd click the link then go and grab my coffee.
Daggers Posted 1 December 2006 Posted 1 December 2006 Do by all means... just remember to provide a little link with a "skip intro" option ...and don't pile too much info on there and clutter pages up with links. Oh, and if you grab the December issue of PCFormat the free DVD comes with (their words) "the easiest HTML editor we've ever got our hands on!" If you can't I could always send you a copy

Nationwider Posted 1 December 2006 Posted 1 December 2006 Don't go cheating Use Notepad The real man's choice I taught myself HTML that way. Man and boy. Flash is great. Just keep it simple, as cisono says, avoid intros and unnecessary fannying about. If you don't need something, don't use it.
