Kilworthfox Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Just recently i have been getting disinterested with the premiership, maybe because we are not in it but i don't think its that. What is satarting to annoy me is Sky, diving, lack of competition at the top. Sky hype up the games so much now with some music a bit of action before a match a catchy title and then a bit let down in a crappy Watford vs Man city or who ever Im just not interested any more. I did not bother to watch Chelski vs Arsenal as i was not interested. People who dive / Cheat in football is just a sad sight in our football now, did you see Lehman and Drogba yesterday just a joke! Then Ronaldo diving in the area and then Fergie defends him and tries to make southgate look as if is is inexperianced and does not realise what happens in the area! Southgate, a former England int defender! Well done Stuart Pearce for saying Corradi dived and that he will have words with him about it 1st step on a long road! Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Who eles will win the prem in the next 10 years? Maybe someone with a benefactor and good management like chelsea have done in recent years, just boring realy no? I accept that players like Ronaldo, Rooney, Henry are well worth watching for their skill but some players are killing the sport which hopefully will drive out some fans from the viewing figures of sky sports which will lose money and hopefully sky will not pay so much for the rights and that will then transfer down to player wages and see if players play for the fans and the shirt and not their hefty paypackets, because that is what is making mugs of the fans. £27 for wolves away, £30 for birmingham come on and thats championship! Blue Army!
Lord Nibblington Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 In short, yes. I find myself spectacularly not caring who wins the title out of Man Utd and Chelsea. Or if Liverpool and Arsenal can catch them. Or which random team will have a spankingly good season, and challenge the top 4, and then drop off the next season. Yes, some of the quality is amazing, some of the play is stunning, but ultimately, who cares? The end result never really changes much, and lets be honest, there are some God awful teams in the Premiership, which make for some dire, turgid matches that sky insist I watch.
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Part of the problem is the fear of losing which the bottom 14 or so must necessarily have. Relegation simply is not an option for so many of them, as evidenced by Leeds, Palace, Coventry, Derby and us...

Relegation simply is not an option for so many of them, as evidenced by Leeds, Palace, Coventry, Derby and us... True. But there are 2 good examples from last season and this of the benefits of trying to actually play some good football. Wigan had a good season last year, and it looks like Reading are matching them this season. I always find myself thinking "I wouldn't mind watching that" whenever they played, since it was usually a good game.
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 I think the reason for this mate, to a degree is that for them, relegation IS an option. That's not to say they aren't 120% committed to staying up, but the fear isn't there. They give it a bloody good go but if they go down, the board knows the club is still viable and a recovery is possible as the setup is still Championship ready. I think this is part of the reason anyway. I agree with you for what it's worth mate... the premiership is dull to watch, even the top games are often dull as so much is at stake.
Lord Nibblington Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Part of the reason is also the personal at the club. Wigan, Reading and to a certain extent West Ham got promoted by playing some nice football. And rather than try and change, they just carried on, as that's what their players were good at doing. Most teams who have been in the Premiership for some time, have got in a bunch of players in an effort to not get beaten away from home, and win around 50 - 75% of their home games. Also, when talking about dull premiership teams, and this kind of set up, I automatically think of Fulham. I mean, why are they there? When are they ever going to do anything?
Master Fox Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 I think people's views would be different if Leicester were competing in the Premiership.
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 I think of Middlesborough, perhaps unfairly.
Lord Nibblington Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 I think of them too. And Sky always seem to want to show them as well. Why?
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Sky love Middlesborough/Coventry and bizarrely us.
Joe. Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 I agree... Boring boring Premiership! It's too predictable, you know who's going to finish top four this year and every other year. With the Championship, it's so unpredictable which makes it a great league.
lildave3 Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Well i still enjoy watching it. Teams like Pompey and Reading are good to watch, aswell as Villa. Plus you cannot say that the Chelsea/Arsenal match was boring.

Any game championship game on sky is dire, its like watching a Leicester game with no interest.

Filbert_Ross Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Sheff.u v villa has been a brilliant game.
lildave3 Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 Sheff.u v villa has been a brilliant game. Watched last 20 minutes and it looked good. Taylor looks adecent keeper nowadays, even kicking improved alot. Sheff U should of scored when they had them 4 chances in quick succession though.

potter3 Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 The first step would be for the FA/individual teams to stand up and refuse to move the matches for Sky, okay maybe have one on Sunday or one at 5:45 on a Saturday but the majority of games should be played at 3:00PM on a Saturday, and definately not a Monday or Friday And video technology should be introduced just to hunt out divers, and divers should be dealt with more severely, say Ronaldo gets fined £10'000 for a dive, thats a fraction of his weekly wages, it's hardly a deterrent. For every dive there should a 1 point penalty for the team, and this should everntually lead to team + managers cutting diving out

Was well funny united went ahead....then 56 seconds later milan baros banged an equaliser....the villa fans went nuts

gatesheadfox Posted 12 December 2006 Posted 12 December 2006 There shouldn't be a penalty on the team, just a fine and ban on the individual player. i've always felt if you dive for a penalty the goal should be wiped off if you're found out. similarly if you dive to get someone sent off the FA should reverse the red card and you should be suspended, possibly the only way to stop the problem. other than shooting the cheats
potter3 Posted 12 December 2006 Posted 12 December 2006 Bit harsh dont ya think? A point deduction for diving? Well maybe it's a bit harsh, but most Premiership players would not be harmed by a fine, so there's got to be an alternative. If the clubs are punished many of them will start to disipline divers themselves, otherwise it'll never stop. Maybe a system similar to Torquay, three strikes (3 dives from the same player) and the club is deducted a point. Somethings got to change because Chelsea will not stop diving if the only punishment is a fine.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 12 December 2006 Posted 12 December 2006 all the premiership teams should swap keepers with the conference teams then we will see a few more 4-3's like a few seasons a go i swear their was at least 3 high scoring premiership games a week
