This is what Russell Crowe and his Rugby League club thinks about it though

Russell Crowe has banned sexy cheerleaders from his rugby league team this season because they make fans feel too uncomfortable. The star is co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Australia and revealed last night the club had decided to discard its cheerleaders.

He says, "Our focus is to re-establish rugby league and women. The focus on game day should be a positive experience for the crowd. We feel they (the cheerleaders) made a lot of people uncomfortable. We examined game day and wanted to contemporize and make the focus football. It makes women uncomfortable and it makes blokes who take their sons to the football also uncomfortable."

The team will replace their cheerleaders with a drumming band consisting of both men and women during NRL home matches. Crowe said his wife Danielle Spencer supported the club's controversial stance saying, "She likes the fact that game day entertainment will be multi-sex. She likes that aspect."

He adds, "We've talked to a lot of people and everyone sees it as being progressive The whole idea of percussion will be exciting for the crowd."

So ok, maybe i'm tarring all women with the same brush here but alot of women watch football and look at the footballers legs...And tbh even women who go to actually support the team, surly they like some of the players and watch them, so even though the males also go to watch the football wheres the eye candy for men?!

Bring em back!

why not promote them as referees assistants also, they can't do a worse job technically than the current pros, based on the refereeing I have seen over the past few seasons, and, if they dressed them in nice tight lycra garments then we could enjoy our football with the added bonus of crackling line dashing crumpet

Russell Crowe's Team Cuts Cheerleaders

Actor Says Squad Detracts From Game

SYDNEY, Australia -- As Russell Crowe sees it, sex doesn't sell -- when it comes to the cheerleaders for his rugby league club in Australia.

He said the skimpily clad cheerleading squad is being cut because it detracts from the game and makes spectators uncomfortable.

Crowe, who is part owner, said the club had become concerned that the cheerleaders, whose uniform includes fishnet stockings and tasseled miniskirts in the team colors, were inappropriate entertainment.

Crowe told an Australian newspaper the move was made in order to place the focus more on rugby.

The club announced earlier this week that a team of percussionists will replace the cheerleaders.
