Bluefoxtim Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 Sobering post. In my opinion, it was more of a case of Cov being absolutely SH*T, rather than us being great... On each of our goals, you'll notice the time and the space and the fact that we had chickens around our attackers. I haven't seen a defence that poor since the Walkers opened. Ok, the game was won at 3 - 0 and obviously we didn't push as much, but pretty much after the third goal we went back to the usual long ball rubbish and aimless passing. I'm sure most of you will agree that the talk of getting into the play-offs is ridiculous. Countless people were seriously discussing it around me, what planet are they on? Still, a great day out and in the end an easy win, but we are still a poor side and most certainly not world-beaters. We just beat an absolutely abysmal Cov defence. I know I should be happy after the takeover and an easy 3 - 0 win, but keeping my feet on the ground. Remember, a better defence would never have allowed us to score any of those goals, and they had a fair few chances themselves. If that had happened this was certainly not a good performance. Goals don't make a good performance, they easily mask a poor performance, which I believe is what has happened on this occassion. I'm normally very positive and optimistic but today I was still not happy, getting really p*ssed off in the second half with the poor balls and poor decisions. I hope i'm wrong, guess the next couple of games will show our true colours, and whether or not we go back to our usual inconsistancy. Blue army
Aeropars Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 second half granted. BUT We made the look like muppets. I totally disagree with you We passed quickyly, accuratly and finished with killer instincts. I think the second half was more to do with over exertion in the first half. Improve our fitness and we can do that week en week out. I'm new here but i have always said fitness is lacking in our squad.
OzFox311 Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 Good post Bluefoxtim.... I think I am happy because the team played as a team, not so much that we played superbly.... I think RK needs to remember that, and keep trying to improve the team... we still need loan signings and some experience to helps our juniors, who are looking rather useful ATM... :D It's about improvement, this week was a dramatic improvement, if we keep improving, then this performance won't be seen as great... but compared to previous weeks, we can say the Milan era has started off successfully... Considering also how much of a high most fans are on, it wouldn't surprise me if they are dreaming big... and why not, we are headed upward now..
lcfc_thefoxes Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 The reason they played terrible was because we contained them and exploited them. Kelly got it spot on today and was disappointed we only came away with 3

I actually thought we were really lucky not to concede three goals today!
Bluefoxtim Posted 17 February 2007 Author Posted 17 February 2007 Well my opinion might change after I have seen the highlights... do you think we could have a top spot on the championship tomorrow considering the take-over an all?
lcfc_thefoxes Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 Well my opinion might change after I have seen the highlights... do you think we could have a top spot on the championship tomorrow considering the take-over an all? Arent we supposedly the featured game tomorrow?
Bluefoxtim Posted 17 February 2007 Author Posted 17 February 2007 Please proof read your posts beforehand. I actually thought we were really lucky not to concede three goals today! Exactly. Goals win you games, but not performances. They should have had at least one, and a defence with some sort of clue would have preventing at least one of our goals. The result COULD have easily been different today. And IMO it was a game where the bulk of us said "great performance" purely on the scoreline, NOT on the performance.
lcfc_jme Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 This, imo, was the same as when we beat an awful Ipswich side 3-1 at the Walkers earlier this year. An absolutely awful side came to play us, and we were good enough to exploit them, punish them and make it count. We can only beat what's infront of us. This isn't to say we're now a brilliant side and can start talking of beating everyone we play though. It's a good platform, good morale boosting win, and hopefully something to build on in coming games.

Bert Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 Some people are never happy. In the first half, we were brilliant. The second half we wernt good, but we scrapped away and fully deserved our win.
lcfc_jme Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 What we think awful or not, they were still above us in the table so not as awful as us! They were above us in the table, and probably on merit as well. But the way they played, first half an hour especially, was suicidal. They deserved to be dispatched and they were. We had a good first half, no doubting that, and they were shocking. Second half was a lot more evenly contested, and as a matter of fact they might have shaded it. If we're better than what they are, it isn't by much.
Bluefoxtim Posted 17 February 2007 Author Posted 17 February 2007 JESUS!!!!! WE WIN 3 - 0 AGAINST COVENTRY AND YOU STILL ARENT HAPPY!!!! SOME PEOPLE ARE SO HARD TO PLEASE Got to look long term because that's what we need to do if we want to start challenging for the top places. Did you go to the game or did you listen to the radio?
lcfc_thefoxes Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 We shouldnt be moaning about the second half display because the game was won at half time and maybe if we were still at 0 - 0 then we would have gone for a goal. We should be content with what we have for now

My point against a lot of pundits as well is this: Can it not be the winning or oposing team that causes a team to be in disarray? If they were nto playing at all well, it would have been a comedy of errors with us scoring off silly attempts. BUT, I saw some pace, commitment, skill and composure today which caused us to win. Something we haveny seen to much this season and seasons of past but today we performed and the opposition couldnt cope. Today (first half at least) many prem teams would have had difficulty containing the slick movement and clinical finishing

davieG Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 Based on performances over the last 3 years I would say it was Ok, it's not going to get us out of this division but then I didn't expect a few loanees to make a significant impact. Big changes are still needed all the way through this team if this club is going to fulfil MM's and our dreams of getting out of this league.
Aeropars Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 That the case maybe,,,, But we are in a scrap and we now appear to be outclassing people within that scrapping league.. Fair enough, its only 2 games but at least we can see a way past division 1 football which is all we were worried about. Did anyone really expect a promotion chase given our squad?!
BartonFox Posted 17 February 2007 Posted 17 February 2007 JESUS!!!!! WE WIN 3 - 0 AGAINST COVENTRY AND YOU STILL ARENT HAPPY!!!! SOME PEOPLE ARE SO HARD TO PLEASE Oh do turn it in, it's all about debate and the future of LCFC. The facts are we won but the performance wasn't the best and against better sides than Coventry, of which there are plenty in this division, the result would be different. Is that not something to be concerned about?
Aeropars Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Shall we put this conversation on ice until next weekend? @Because if we get beat it will be a case of people calling out 'we're shit, we deserve to be religated LCFC fans really are not happy no matter what, they are mostly living in the past. Well, most people I have spoken to on here.

Well, most people I have spoken to on here. WHAT!? living in the past? No my friend, we are living in the present. I'll be happy once this club finally sorts itself out. I'm not gonna be dancing around because of one win against a SH*T cov side.
Aeropars Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 So, why do the majority not accept we are no longer any better than out league positions suggests? People expect MON era postions and glory times, Just because they were once there, it does not mean we are entitled to them.... just ask forest! Just to add, I was not saying get carried away over todays win... quote the opposite.
