Sparky Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 me and 4 mates are heading to cardiff 4 the weekend for the carling cup final , we won tickets for winning the football manager uk quiz . just wondered if anybody has been there ? good bars , places to go etc etc
Geo V Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Ive been there to watch the footy but I didnt risk parking up and stopping to drink or eat. It will remind you of England in the 1980s. If you do plan to stop and admire the sites, I suggest that you wear a kogul and a bumfluffesque tash and boast alot about the fact that you have had 7 sheep this week. Also, memories the National Anthem incase you get quizzed.
Dellyjo Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 What's the best thing to come out of Cardiff? The M4 What do you call a Cardiff virgin? Welsh rarebit
Leicfox Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Ive been to watch Blackpool in the LDV final, all the pubs were shut apart from one and that was heaving as you can imagine, we had to settle for buying cans from the offy like everyone else did, the place was awash with beer cans.

DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 Never been, heard it's shit. Don't go to Swansea. Fookin soap dodgers.
cisono Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 Never been to Wales although I read a lot about Bangor for some reason...
Lester LXXIV Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 Took the missus to watch the Madonna concert. Stayed down the main strip in Cardiff. Good night on the piss, plenty of bars of differing types. irish bars with live music, clubs with good music and little dolly birds and it even had a chinese buffet which was good value for money!! Shops good too, spent a fortune! Enjoy!
Alexikokopops Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 Went there for a few days back in December. Had a great time, couldn't tell you where I ended up though.
Cat Burger Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 I ended up there on new years eve, I had tickets to the party at the millenium stadium and it wasn't the best, the people made it enjoyable though. The fact that I didn't get to sample the nightlife of Cardiff was upsetting.

Various giant wetherspoons (neatly arranged for each end of the stadium), handful of fancy bars, some real pubs, Clwb Ifor Bach is usually a good night out its just behind the Gatekeeper but I dunno if its got anything on for tomorrow, various other places of varying styles and quality but mostly good. Most of those sorts of places are on St. Mary's or just off it, Queen Street is just shops. Theres a little bit of touristy stuff with the castle and a museum and some other odds and ends down the Bay but not much. Oh, and the best place on chippy lane is Dorothy's. Cardiff is crap for traffic and parking though, if you're coming by car.

Sparky Posted 26 February 2007 Author Posted 26 February 2007 not a bad weekend all in all . millenium stadium is awesome on telly it looks another plastic "big ground" but the atmosphere was phenominal and i would probably have it top of best grounds ive been to and there has been a few. being an english rugby supporter was not fun during the ireland match but we got our own back later on when the french beat the welsh. wasnt overly impressed with the nightlife , few decent weatherspoon pubs , walkabout and o neills and few decent restaurant , chinese buffet was good . went cardiff bay on sunday night and the bars around there were impressive and the restaurants were classy if not a little expensive . And the final wernt bad either .i liked the bit in the chelsea end where i could stand up and bellow "AND LEICESTER"

Just like going into any of the three said pubs anywhere in the country. You should have gone to Mill Lane opposite The Marriott. Loads of cafe bars where you can sit outside and chill.

Ultra Posted 27 February 2007 Posted 27 February 2007 The pubs in Cardiff Bay are pretty sound, as are the ones south of the railway station. But you should do OK anywhere that sells Brains ales.. PS Let's hope for a better turnout when we next play at Ninian Park - our following in recent games there has been pitiful!
