Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 i have a severely disabled brother who has a mental age of 18 months, he is now 23 he was predicted to die at the ages of 3,6,10,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22 and he's not supposed to see this year out. we were told he would never sit up, walk or communicate in any way, he does all of these things and if people find humour in calling him (indirectly) a retard then good on you, well done and fu ck off Not entirely sure why my post in particular was chosen as the reply but anyway let me apologise for any offence I personally may have caused. It was a reference to an image (and statement) that has been shown on this forum before more than once. I won't make any excuses, this has touched a nerve with some people and for that I am sorry. As I said earlier delete the posts if you or anyone else finds them offensive and we'll move on.

Speaking of things honourable - here is my latest (and hopefully final) update on my spat with Lemond. The Master of Wit & Repartee pm'ed me last night with a 'counter' invitation: to meet him tonight at a place called Boot's Bar in Brum. A quick google revealed that it's the kind of place where one goes to meet 'a friend of Dorothy.' I replied restating my original invitation (issued on the 'Ronaldo Eat Your Heart Out' thread) and got the predictable (and witless) response: that I was all mouth and trousers. All I can say to that is there was I thinking that Lemond has a cowardly streak when really, how shall I put it, all he has is an atypical lifestyle (compared to footer fans at least). Seems like you've got yourself stuck in a conundrom every bit as tricky as the 'amusing' retard at the Special Olympics, Lemond - now that's what I call poetic justice.

I thought it was interesting how the girl felt she could just 'dip in' to the process and then go get stuff from her friends...I hope it become harder for her next week. I think that most people believe the way the Asian businessman did, that anyone homeless could stop being homeless with a bit of effort. The trouble he encountered just trying to sell some flowers was priceless...and you could see it was a revelation to him.

Obviously, it's just a television show at the end of the day but if it promotes a greater level of tolerance and comprehension for the issue then I'm all in favour.
