Jon the Hat Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 For those would would believe that Labour have improved the country since 1997, I would recommend a reality check in the form of this book. "They who would give up an essential Liberty for Temporary Security deserve neither liberty nor security" Benjamin Frnaklin.
Finnegan Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Yeah, yeah, digs at the government. I might not have been all that particularly politically aware in 1997 (being 11), but people largely forget the state the Tories had this country in.

Read a review of it on Friday - looks interesting. There is a film doing a tour of the country to accompany it (in the style of a door-stepping Michael Moore) in independent cinemas. Website for the film & book here
stez Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 i'm going to give it a whirl, because i like to know what i'm moaning about, but re. what finnigan said, and although the economy was improving, i've been better off under labour than ever i was under john major (and i lived at home still then!)

This book isn't about the economy it's about the way Labour has dealt with the "terror threat" by fundamentally changing the justice system in the UK. It is scary stuff. Yes it is a libertarian take on everything, but there really are some scary examples.

Labour were a good thing in 97, but they have taken the piss for the last 5 years.
Finnegan Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Absolute power corrupts, absolutely. They've just drifted further right every year, time for a rehaul.
