JoeyB Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 England's footballers have decided to play for the national team for free - and donate their match fees to charity. The squad are to establish a Team England Footballers Charity, which will raise more than £1m before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. "Every player to a man is looking forward to supporting this charity," said England skipper John Terry. Football Association chief Brian Barwick added: "I am very pleased the whole squad has taken this initiative." Link
Dames Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 They should play for free anyway, I'd give a bollock to play for the national team.
Raj Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Considering they 'only' get paid a grand or so to play for their country is it really that big a deal? recently some premiership players gave a days wages to the Nurses charity, perhaps this made the rest feel guilty. P.S( a days premiership wage would probably amout to approx 5-10,000 pounds!) BUT having said all that...well done anyway

BUT having said all that...well done anyway and of course not one of Chelseas stars did this including John Terry who then says the players didn't have to do this they wanted to do some good oh and I imagine the fact that the project has been has been organised by 1966 Entertainment owned by Simon Fuller that this more to do with good publicity than generosity but maybe that is me being skeptical but somehow I doubt it

Stevosevic Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 I watched the programme on thursday about the nurses, it said at the end "she found members of every premiership club to donate money - even chelsea". Half of all premiership footballers in the end, poor effort to be honest.
The Reverend Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 They should'nt get paid anyway so its good that its going to charity.
Ultra Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Fair play to them. Even if their clubs do make them among the highest-paid in the world.
