dandannieldanok Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 I think Chelsea are getting slightly desperate.
Joe. Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 A great life for him earning lots of money for a place on the bench...
lildave3 Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 A great life for him earning lots of money for a place on the bench... Great back up player, plus this means Essien will play mostly in midfield again.
Simi Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 A great life for him earning lots of money for a place on the bench... Can't see why he turned down Newcastle to be honest. Allardyce knows whay he's all about. Plus with the defence that Newcastle have he would surely get into the team.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 why they should be going for world beaters I'm not saying they should but Ben Haim is nothing more than average IMO.

Plus with the defence that Newcastle have he would surely get into the team. I'm surprised in a way too that he rejected Newcastle. I'm pretty sure they'd offer him a similar wage etc and there would be a much greater chance of a first team place. I suppose the lure of Chelsea, trophies and European football was too much to turn down though
Simi Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Maybe this signing shows how much Carvalho is in Mourinhos plans ? I thought he was good last season, prone to a few errors, but maybe Jose wants a replacement.
Stevosevic Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Maybe this signing shows how much Carvalho is in Mourinhos plans ? I thought he was good last season, prone to a few errors, but maybe Jose wants a replacement. Carvalho was Chelseas best defender last season, according to Mourinho and Chelsea fans, i'm sure he will still be first choice.

He will be, Ben Haim is only there for cover, something they lacked big time at centre back last year.

Plus with the defence that Newcastle have he would surely get into the team. So what bit are you struggling with? Newcastle Brown or Cristal Bigg Market or West End Byker Grove showbiz party or A-List premiers House of Fraser or Harrods Angel of the North or Take your pick! No flights to Israel a day or Numerous
Mort Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Chelski developing some depth within their squad that they were really shown up as lacking last season... still think they'll need to actually invest in one or two players but beyond that they should be able put in a competative challenge for the title, could do with a consistent second striker (McCarthy?) but not much else (unless Lampard leaves).
dandannieldanok Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Chelsea for the league next year, 3 useful signings. To be league champions you need great signings not useful ones.
Stevosevic Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Chelsea for the league next year, 3 useful signings. Yes, because Man Utd's signings are not even up to your 'useful' standard.
Ultra Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Chelsea for the league next year, 3 useful signings. Who's going to score their goals while Drogba is injured or away at the African Nations Cup?
Simi Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Who's going to score their goals while Drogba is injured or away at the African Nations Cup? True. Pizzaro could be the next Shevchenko and be a complete flop in the premiership. Kalou doesn't really look like a prolific goalscorer either. Mourinho must be praying that Shevchenko can find his old goal scoring touch.
Mort Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Who's going to score their goals while Drogba is injured or away at the African Nations Cup? Would be surprised if Jose didnt go in for another striker... McCarthy would seem the most likley candidate and his contract means Chelski could nab him for £9-10mil, and there's always Owen:unsure:... if Robben and/or Lampard go they'll need replacing but if their retained then a striker is all Chelski really need with their defence and midfield deeper than last season which will come in handy and mean they dont get caught out as they were this season past.
Tevez Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Yes, because Man Utd's signings are not even up to your 'useful' standard.
lcfc_jme Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 This move doesn't surprise me. Was supposedly going to happen in January but Allardyce didn't want to let go and was reportedly asking for too much wasn't he?? Anyhow, Ben Haim is going to be nothing more than a rotation player, playing in primarily the League Cup and only being called on otherwise in the case of injury or suspension.
