Matt Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 The Premier League is planning to trial the Hawk-Eye technology introduced in tennis at this year's Wimbledon to determine whether the ball has crossed the line or not.The "blind trial" will take place at Reading's academy with a view to implementing the ball-tracking system in matches should it prove successful. Numerous Premier League managers have championed the use of such technology for numerous years in a bid to reduce the amount of contentious goalline decisions. "We have a contract with the Premier League to develop a system purely to resolve the dispute whether the ball crossed the line, purely for the referee and not for television," Paul Hawkins, managing director of Hawk-Eye Innovations told BBC Five Live's Sportsweek programme. "The process is to be evaluated by the Premier League and then by FIFA. "If we jump those hurdles then the end aim is to have it installed in all Premier League grounds hopefully. "It will be tested next month and the process will evolve from there. "It took a couple of years in tennis from the start of tests to it being used and we can probably expect the same timeframe." I know we have discussed this on here before and there are valid points for and against technology in the game, but I still stand by what I have always said, we need it in the game, The game is too fast for referee's now, and as for the assisitant referee's there as good as useless. I understand referee's have a hard job and I wouldn't want the job but that is why I am for technology. The only major worry i'd have about technology is it would either be a yes or a no discission, no inbetween nothing to discuss, nothing to have banter about, and no-one to blame unless its a genuine fook up by the players!
Simi Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Ironic you post this now Roger Federer has just attempeted to aruge against it in the Wimbledon final
lildave3 Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Ironic you post this now Roger Federer has just attempeted to aruge against it in the Wimbledon final The ball was not in, i've told you this already
Simi Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 The ball was not in, i've told you this already Vamos Rafa
Simi Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Balls to Rafa, Rog is the man. Anyway, back to the football. It's been a topical issue for sometime, but if it is ever going to be introduced this is the right way to go about it I think.
Durnerz Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I disagree with it, controversy is what makes the game and gives us all something to talk about.
Simi Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I disagree with it, controversy is what makes the game and gives us all something to talk about. I agree with you. But the pressure is to high on the Premier League to do something about it, they have to at least trial it.
Sparky Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I disagree with it, controversy is what makes the game and gives us all something to talk about. thats my view also but the ball over the line or not is factual rather than opinion so id be happy to see this trialled
Joe. Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I'd be happy to see this as a regular feature in the game. Bad decisions can cost clubs dearly and something needs to be done about it.
Blue Bob Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I think it is worth a trial. My guess is the first goal that was initially disallowed but then is given against us will start a campaign to have it removed. Not that were all biased!!!
David O'Leary Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 there are two ways of looking at it: 1. from the referee's point of view, where he wants to make the game as fair as it can be or 2. from the fan's point of view, its something to argue with other football fans about. so its wether you would rather have a fair game or something to talk about for a few days
Kent Fox Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Dodgy decisions are what make our beautiful game. To tamper with it would be like sticking a Ford badge on an Aston Martin.. Or something We have suffered from bad decisions, but benefitted from them too. And remember, fans of technology, England would not have won the World Cup (necessarily) in '66. We might need that lack of tech again.. Viva the Lino! Viva the Ref!
Toby or not Toby Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Dodgy decisions are what make our beautiful game.To tamper with it would be like sticking a Ford badge on an Aston Martin.. Or something We have suffered from bad decisions, but benefitted from them too. And remember, fans of technology, England would not have won the World Cup (necessarily) in '66. We might need that lack of tech again.. Viva the Lino! Viva the Ref! I feel the game would be interupted by this. if something is to be done id prefer to have someone permanantley on each goal line in order to judge if it over the line
potter3 Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 I don't know whether I'm for this or not...but even if it was installed it may not affect us initially as we (hopefully not) may be in the Championship.
Tubes Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 i think its all part of the game and should not be introduced in 10 years there wont be any excuse to mnoan at the ref taking a big amount of enjoyment away from the game to be honest afetr a hard week going to the football having a beer, singsong and shouting at the refs crap decisions lets out all the built up tension as someone previously said 'bollocks to hawkeye'
