lookwhaticando Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 The Interstate 35 (I-35W) bridge over the Mississippi river in Minneapolis has lost an entire section to the water below. The bridge was apparently undergoing repairs in recent times, and the bridge collapsed around 6pm local time. Six people are reported dead so far (according to CBS). It was thought a school bus may have plunged into the river with the bridge, but fortunately had stopped on the edge of a still-standing section - all the children on board were removed from the vehicle safely. It's estimated that 50 vehicles plunged with the bridge. The height of the bridge is said to have been 64 feet. It's said that the bridge had 'one or two' lanes closed at a time during the recent repairs (ongoing) - and that the bridge itself 'buckled' and collapsed. BBC News Article
Brainy Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 I was up when that happened. Looks very bad. Thats why I get a bit nervy when going over bridges.
Maybes Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 I was up when that happened.Looks very bad. Thats why I get a bit nervy when going over bridges. Same. I hate going over the long bridges. Don't like the little bridge you have to go over to get onto the ferry either. Really is terrible.
Kent Fox Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 That is really bad! I cannot possibly imagine being in that predicament. Nothing you can do. I have been across this bridge and it is kinda scary because of the drop. You cannot help feeling that the same thing might happen on this one. The Millau viaduct is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris and Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever constructed. The tallest is 240 meters (787 feet) high and the overall height is an impressive 336 meters (1102 feet), making this the highest bridge in the world.

I think I would shit myself If I had to go over that.
Milky Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 You're far more likely to die in a car crash than a bridge collapse. Are you scared of being in a car aswell?
filbertway Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 You're far more likely to die in a car crash than a bridge collapse. Are you scared of being in a car aswell? Ina car you're kind of in control of what is going on, if you're going over a bridge and it decides to collapse or something else theres not much you can do about it.

Maybes Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 You go considerably higher in aircraft!!! Hence why some people have a fear of flying although its the safest method of transport. But if it fails there is nothing you can do.
Dr The Singh Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 Hence why some people have a fear of flying although its the safest method of transport. But if it fails there is nothing you can do. Have you seen the movie Airplane, there's plenty you could do, atleast 1h 20 mins of laughter!!!

filbertway Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 You go considerably higher in aircraft!!! 70 feet, 30,000 feet. It's all the same, a fall from both heights could do damage. Plus in a plane, all you see is clouds, so its harder to look down, plus the ground just look like a plastic jigsaw puzzle anyway.
lookwhaticando Posted 2 August 2007 Author Posted 2 August 2007 In a car you're kind of in control of what is going on And yet, every single day, countless "in control" folk manage to wrap their car around a tree, or another car, a pedestrian or a fooking house.
Kent Fox Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 Where is this ?and yes its nice I think it's London Bridge. Or the very famous Golden Gate in San Francisco. Or neither.
